My Girlfriend has an 02 Protege 2.0 L and her overdrive button doesn't work anymore, the light on the dash doesn't turn on and I have a feeling that the engine is stuck in D rather then O/D. I don't know much about these cars but it seem to rev pretty high at highways speeds (120km), around 3500 RPM. Can anyone tell me if there's a simple fix for this problem and what the RPM should read when at highway speeds, thanks for your help.

That's about where mine revs at 70-75mph with the broken overdrive button.

not sure if this will help, but you could try unpluging the battery, so that your cars computer chip could restart, leave it unpluged for 5 min.
i have kind of a simlier problem, my overdrive light came on and of for no reason, and i unpluged the battery and its fixed

The button itself makes a sound. But I don't hear a relay or anything. I haven't checked the fuses I'll do that later today. You'd think something catastrophic would happen when a fuse like that blows.

I would say as long as the light is off your ok. The light is suposed to be off anyways, how did you find out it was not working? Most people dont even use the button.

I use it for a little better acceleration from time to time, but thats about it.
