Im seeing on here that alot of people are suggesting not to turbo the stock motor due to the fact that it cant handle the power??

How true is this? I have a 03 stock LX with a SRI at the moment and exhaust on the way. But i want a turbo set-up only if i can get the HP that i want without blowing up the motor.

Any input on this is appreciated

keep it under 180 hp untuned and you should be ok, higher hp requires a good tune and supporting mods

turbo exhaust, intake, upgraded intercooler(SMIC or FMIC), hardpipes, sparkplugs, motor mounts, etc

Cool JCell thanks for all the help!!! Just want more HP out of this thing!!
Have some parts that i have been accumulating over time for this.

Later I can send you the parts list I have for my turbo build, if you want.
It's only missing a few things like vacuum lines and some fittings maybe.

I would like to do the same...turbo the motor. Anywhere between 180-200whp would be real nice without blowing anything up. Does anyone know about a turbo kit that comes with EVERYTHING you need? Not trying to thread jack...

it also depends on the driver, beat on the car too much and she'll blow N/A

Man, the motor must be good cuz I beat that thing almost constantly for 158,000 miles and counting...more than likely if I do go turbo I better get another motor first. But hey, might as well boost this one first, right!?!?!

HiBoost has a nice turbo kit...
I would've been better off getting their kit that trying to put together my own buying parts from all over.

I turboed my 2001 ES 2.0 and love it. It's been going for several years now without blowing the engine. I'm running stock internals and stock ecu(Using the voltage clamp to pull fuel at boost)

Can't imagine life without it!

why turbo a car if you don't know how much power your looking for. not saying not to do it but at least have a goal for the amount of horsepower your looking for.

my car is turbo'ed and I still am looking for additonal HP I still need a new I'M and catless midpipe and maybe even a better exhaust manifold. paired with a nice tune. if and when its possible I would hope to achieve at least 170 or higher

right now I don't think I'm putting out more then 140 at the wheels. and that's at 3-4 lbs of boost. hopefully a dyno tune will tell me otherwise. but good luck on your project

I'm gonna need to go on travel and get with the guys with the turbo kits on their rides...I'd rather go to a shop with a happy customer than to guess with shops in my area. Don't want them experimenting wit my baby (but def. 200whp will be enuf).

yes, in the MP5 fourms, FI fourms and the photo/video forums

I'm running a spool kit with a garret T3

a forum member took me for a ride in his turbo'ed MP3 and I was blown away, so 3 months later I bought his older kit and we installed it in my car.

in a couple weeks I plan on getting a new IM and a catless midpipe then dyno it at 3-4 PSI even if I dyno at 150 hp that's good enough for me.

How many miles did you have on your motor when you installed the turbo kit?

my engine has 36XXX on it so its practically new, bought the car with 31XXX. a old man had my car before me and he only drove it to work and he lived close.

Well, hopefully when I slap it on, it won't blow up the motor and force me to buy a new one!! But if it does, I had a good 160k out of it.
