I have 2 cels. One is the bank one lean. The other is 1 cylinder misfire. The car hesitates heavily at 3500. Pretty much refused to acclerate past that at full throttle. Currently mods are Nology hotwires, Perrin intake with aem dry filter, forge bov, and corksport downpipe. Originally thought it was caused by a faulty wire. Wires were replaced, plugs are in ok condition but will be changed. What could the cause be?
Thanks

Any Ideas..... I'm thinking MAF but I'm hoping it's not. Hoping for something cheap.

Sounds like the wastegate actuator is done. That will make you hit fuel cut at 3500 and give you the bank one lean code.

I didn't even consider the wastegate actuator..... Is it sticking closed.

Yeah I was thinking actuator or leak in the intake.

Well it's the actuator. Mazda actually has a tsb and a fix on this. Sopposedly it's a external wastgate. Atleast that's what they told my father....

Have you actually tested the actuator? Mazda's solution is just a very slightly revised version of the same actuator. They claim the diaphram materiel is different. The guy that talked to your father is a moron...

Neither one of those codes is WGA related. Thus the moron comment.

Well, actually the lean codes could be from the wga leaking and it is possible for a lean condition to produce a misfire. But, there are a lot of other things that could cause either one of those codes, which is why I asked if the wga had been tested or not. I say the guy is a moron because if mazda's fix for the wga tsb was an external wastegate, then everyone would be getting new turbo manifolds, turbos, and downpipes along with the external wastegate just to make it work.(boom06)

Mazda will never give us jack! I doubt its the WGA and more than likely something else putting too much oxygen in the exhaust and also causing cylinder #1 to misfire. But sure wierd things happen and anything is possible.

Does anyone think it could possibly be a coil pack? Just a thought.

I thought that it was a coil pack originally but don't really have anyway to test. Also there is a bit of a idle problem as well that actually goes a way if you pinch the vacuum hose just before the actuator.

it could be the forge bov, forge bovs are known to cause shitty drivability

LOL what a great service advisor you got there. If mazda made an external wastegate for this car I'd buy one just to have it laying on the shelf to look at.

I thought about that too. That bov has been on there for a long time too. Well yeah that service advisor is a joke. If I was closer then I'd talk to him personally but my parents have the car its pretty far away.
