i just installed my prosport electrical boost guage, which is very cool.
tapped wires from the alarm for easy access.

anyway, my previous guage was an autometer mechanical boost/vac and it was reading 0 in the generous autometer 0 box when the key was at the on position, but the car was not running.
my prosport is now reading 2 to 4 vac in the same situation.

any prosport folks have this issue/ideas.

Wierd...I'm installing my Prosport Mechanical Boost gauge this afternoon...I hope I don't have any problems!! The previous owner had an Autometer gauge but he left the wires in the pillar so I'll be tapping of those.

they look much nicer than the autometers i think.

When you start it up what does your vacuum read?

i did find this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XuLIrLpZx3A&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fprofile%2Emyspace%2Ecom%2Findex% 2Ecfm%3Ffuseaction%3Duser%2Eviewprofile%26friendID %3D147865492

and if i can read through the fuzzy video the center guage says turbo and reads into vac when they are turned on.

thats waht mine looks like.
i have also written prosport, we will see if they get back to me.

i imagine you would like to know the vac reading at idle when warmed up.
i will post it when i go out later, as i havent had the car on the road since the install.

hmm vac when the car isn't even on? I'd do a quick once-over of your electrical connections to make sure there isn't a short somewhere, and then yeah hopefully prosport gets back to you soon. All of my prosport gauges are electric and I didn't have any problems like that. I helped another member on here install a prosport boost gauge in their Mazdaspeed6 and it seemed fine for them too.

yeah, im thinking i can put the key to on later without the boost line hooked up and see what happens.
i know when you dont have the boost wire hooked to the guage from the sensor it just keeps climbing

my vac btw is 24 at idle when warm, which is what the autometer read also.

i really like the guage though, the white seems almost too bright, i cant stop looking at it. i will have to wire it to be orange with my headlights.i guess i could also wire it to dim with the headlights.
im pretty sure my wiring is ok as it works fine otherwise, but i will check voltages as well.

kansei, where did you go to get power for the sensor/guage.
i went switched power and ground for both to the alarm box. and white light wire to switched power on the alarm box as well.

No I don't think you can wire it to dim sadly.. it's LED backlit.

I got all my power from my radio harness.. not for the boost pressure sender though, since it was under the hood I got power from the battery, switched from my radio harness, and ground to the chassis.

For lack of the want to run a vac line through the firewall again....I too wired mine up in the engine bay using the battery as power. Mine reads a little in the vac when in the on posistion. As long as your getting an accurate reading while on I think your in the clear and your gauge is fine.

ground to chassis sounds like a potential ideal. its always the grounds that will mess you up.
and thanks for the dimming note.
i will post what i hear from prosport and if i find a fix.
thanks kansei.

yeah, i think its ok too, but i would feel better if it read 0. so its worth a couple tries i suppose. how did you tap power from the batt with such a small wire?

it wouldnt bother me so much if my WGA was working and i didnt rely on the guage as much.

Well I was tapping for power for my oil pressure sender and somethin else too so I used a 14 gauge wire (overkill) wired to the under hood fuse box (to the "main" fuse) with an in-line fuse. Yeah, the wiring to the boost sensor is like 22 gauge, it's tiny stuff.. I just bundled a few of the tiny wires together and soldered them to the 14.

I have the electric boost gauge as well... but it won't be in until a week or so, but I'll let you know then. I'm interested to see what you find out.

eXNeon send me a PM I can get you a replacement wastegate.

thanks but i already have the wastegate.
its the getting it in thats being a PITA. i cant seem to get the hot pipe off.
i tried warming the car,but that didnt seem to help. im wary of busting the plastic IC end tank.
i guess i need to try the heatgun next.

clean car btw.

Thank you you kinda have to work it off a heat gun works but when the car is warm just rock it back and forth while pulling up at the same time.

the prosport reply i recieved read:

"It could be a few things, typically their is residual vacuum in the line when you shut the vehicle off. Altitude also plays a role in reading. and finally did you install the in-line filter? and finally, your old autometer gauge may have been reading incorrect.
Regards,
Glenn"

it sounds like its nothing to worry about, as i am willing to buy the residual vacuum line thing, though i may turn the car on with no vac line connected to see what happens.

Kansei

Oh yeah, did you install the in-line filter? I forgot to when I first installed my gauge.

exNeon
03-05-2007, 01:57 PM
i did put the filter in, though i cant really say i know what its going to add in terms of functionality.
im gonna do the on with no vac source after work today.
also, does the filter need to go in a special direction?
i am also not using the supplied hose, im using real vacuum hose, if that matters.

Kansei

I used some real silicon hose on mine too. I swear the hose they included is the stuff I use for all the air routing in my fishtanks :P

Old thread but I'm bumping because mine also reads slightly vacuum when the key is in the on position.

Did you ever figure it out or just say screw it?

exNeon
06-30-2007, 04:42 PM
i basically said screw it, if its wrong, at least its consistently wrong.
i actually removed my alarm today, which i wired the guage to, so now i am going to have to wire it to the radio, as others have done, i will post if it makes a difference.

exNeon

so now i have wired the guage to the radio, and its the same deal as before.
i do notice that on start up sweep the needle doesnt get all the way to max boost before going back down.
im gonna write them again and ask about that.
but yeah, otherwise its the same issue, i might also try moving the vac source to just before the wga line.
