I have a K&N short ram intake, it can also be switch to a cold air configuration. I understand that there's a risk that a cold air configuration could jeopardize my engine. What are the chances of something detrimental such as water entering the intake manifold? Would you guys recomend putting my K&N intake to a cold air configuration?
Thanks for your attention to this e-mail.

Well there really isnt much gain with the CAI over the SRI. I would just stick with the SRI set up. Theres probably not much of a chance of sucking up much water with the CAI unless you drive through a lake but its really all up to you. Try it both ways and however you see that your car runs better then leave it like that, but I would recomend the SRI setup when its the rainy season.

i have a K&N Cai and never had any issues with it, i even cut out the bottom part of the plastic on the car leaving the air filter sumwhat exposed

if you get water in it you could hydrolock the engine.. or you could buy a water bypass valve which costs around 40$

I have an AEM intake on my car and the air filter is down soo far in the engine bay it's almost like a cai. The throttle response is great. Like someone stated earlier, the gains between a cai and the sri are minimal, and it's less of a headache to get to the filter to change or clean.

As was stated before, you won't hydro-lock your engine unless you drive in very deep water. I really like my ebay/K&N CAI. My only complaint is getting to the filter to clean it.

it might be a pain get to the filter to clean. I know some people that have to jack up the car, and some take the pipe apart to get to the filter. i guess it you might have to use what you see best. do you have a pic of you intake?
