Anybody get the sense like the trans is shifting or doing some weird hesitating when you quickly excelerate sometimes? Not sure if it's the AWD engaging and disengaging but it seems like something ain't right. Seems to happen more around high speed turns. BTW - I know it isn't the engine hesitating cause I had that before the first engine flash ;)

yeah i got a weird clunking sometimes too when im driving spritively. dealer didn't find anything but they also wouldn't drive it hard for safety purposes. request that you drive and have a service manager or something in the pass seat with you and obviously don't go balls to the walls. but show him exactly what happens.

Mine does that as well but I only notice it when the DSC is on. I try to remember to disengage the DSC before I drive it hard. And I only notice it when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Man, I wish you could change that to engage only when you press the button and by default the DSC is "off". Anyone know if that is possible?

yep either a. motor mounts is going out, or b. you broke the dif bolts to the bracket in the rear(which seems to be common)

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll go back to the dealership.... again. I'm becoming friends with the service rep there it seems like. I'll post what I find. Its good/bad to know other peeps are getting the same issue, I'll at least be more educated when I go in.

i have the same problem. switched out the wishbone motor mount for the s.t.reet.unit one, but still didn't fix the problem. I've taken it to the dealership also, and they couldn't duplicate the problem. It only happens when i'm in gear accelertaing from around 2600 to 3400 rpms is when the clunking sound and hesitation from the engine usually happens.

Just wondering if I have the same thing. I'll be on the highway in 6th gear going 70 and the RPMS are just shy of 3,000. If I give it some gas and get to 80 I am just over 3,000.
In that period, there is slight hesitation and I hear thump thump thump coming from the engine bay. .... sounds really odd. Is this what you are talking about?
Upgrade your motor mount.
+1 My SU mount solved what I call torque slap from letting off of the gas and then back to WOT. It is the motor flexing back and forth and the after market mount are more rigid and prevent the problem. I still would go to the dealer and verify that nothing is broken, but sound like the same issue I had.

I had this before, it went away when I took the CAI off. Do you guys have a CAI or SRI?

I have the Mazdaspeed CAI. It also happend before I got the CAI. I'm not sure how the CAI would cause the engine hesitation and clunking sound during acceleration?

I haven't got it since removing it.
This may sound silly, but I think it has to do with the way the Mazdaspeed has the MAF Sensor sitting at an angle, rather than straight up and down like it is when on the stock tubing.

For me its not coming from the engine bay for sure, hard to isolate, but seem like the same engine conditions - not so much the speed as it is just stepping on the gas. It might be this whole engine mount issue others have talked about. I'm trying now to get the exact conditions when it happens but seems to be intermittent which sucks.
As for the CAI, I don't have one yet. I'm waiting on CPE to come out with there ECU then I'm buying the combo...

it's not the motor mount because i have that on mine, but it still does it. i can't pinpoint the exact conditions either but i know it's usually around 2400-3500 rpms, just normal accelerating and it does it. but yeah, it's hard to tell, it happens itermittently like you said.

Some of us have been mentioning this in a different Mazda forum. Seems to be a common problem. I and others notice it when coming out of a rest stop, going like 60, merging with traffic and hitting the gas to bring it up to 75-80mph. For me, it's more like a "clunk clunk clunk" coming from the engine bay, and when you look behind you, you'll see a cloud of grey smoke. It's something engine-management related and I hope Mazda figures out what it is and fixes it.

for owners who hear the clunk when they start driving from being at a stop, Its either because you havent warmed up the car enough and the differentials are still really cold or you are taking off from too high of an rpm. Owners with the clunking while driving, sorry but thats a problem

There is a thread two links above this one titled "Click Click Click sound at 3000 RPM's" and is sounds like the same description as this problem.
My car does this to and I notice an instant power lose after the noise occurs. In the other thread above one guy said it happen to him and the dealership change the "purge valve" and it corrected the problem?
Sounds like the same problem in both threads, low rpm acceleration, click or clunk noise and lack of power?
