'Just curious whether anyone else has experienced this...

Got in my car one morning and the radio wouldn't work. The dash lights worked, but the audio wouldn't turn on.

A couple weeks later (today) I took out the unit to check for loose wires. Disconnected the neg battery cable, then unplugged the unit. The wires and coupling looked ok, so plugged it back in and VIOLA - audio unit works!

Yup...

Oh, and I've seen people mentioning the "coat hanger trick" to extract the audio unit, and thought I'd relay my own experience... I got a Radio Removal Tool Set (for Fords) from Advance Auto and after getting home realized I needed 2 sets. so I made 4 prongs with a coat hanger and shoved them in as the 2nd set and used the actual tool to get enough of a grip to actually pull the unit out. If I was closer to the store, I probably would have just gone back and spent the $4-5 bucks on the 2nd tool!

This happened to me right after I got tints done. Turns out there was some water/tint solution still in the door panel that happened to disturb the speakers... I just parked the car outside during the day for three days, and it worked again.
