From what i read it seems like alot of people are not happy with there air conditioning in the Mazda 3. Is it only bad in certain years? it seems that 2004's had alot of complaints about the AC, I am just wondering if Mazda had inproved it for the following years? I am really wondering how the AC is in the 2005's as I just bought one (it's getting shipped to me and hasn't arrived yet) I suppose there is no difference between AC in the 2.0L VS 2.3L's ? Let me know your option on your AC and please state what make(GX,GS,GT...etc) and year. Thanks.

This has also been a problem in the RX-8 since its beginnings as well. On the RX-8, it was because the air return pipe/hose was not insulated. As long as you were driving at speed and the heat from the engine bay was passing out of the back of the bay, the A/C ran fine. However, as soon as you stopped and let the bay heatsoak, the A/C was terrible. I havent looked under the hood of a 3 or Speed3, but this would be one place to investigate.

the 05s added the air defusers (which was a in dealer service repair add-on for 04s) but other than that the A/C system was the same... they upgraded the evaporator in 06 to be more efficient eliminating the need for the defusers

I have an 06 GS and frankly - compared to my 96' GMC Jiimmy - the MAZDA A/C is shit. You have to run it on recycle all the time just to keep the air cold and god help you if you are in traffic. not much you can do about it though.
