Hello everyone... this applies to everyone who has experimented with short shifters in the MSPs... Out of all the ones I've looked at I was wondering if anyone knew what one gives you the shortest throw and stick length...
Thanks,
NDM-SPEC

I have a b&m short throw in mine. I think that it feels pretty good. I snapped the fork in my tranny before I snapped the B&M and usually it's the other way around. Its got a really sporty feel to it and I could really tell the different in distance of throw. The motor mounts really helped out also.

Check out the TWM...nicest short shifter I've seen for the MSP. If I were buying one that would be it. I had a B&M in my MX-6 and it was ok, but it got sloppy after a little while...

The only problem i have had after installing it was shifting into 3rd. If im normally driving i'm fine, but whenever i was gettin' on it, I missed all the time.

Have you had any problems with 3rd? From what i understand that is the weakest link.

the B&M will shorten the throw but it isn't shorter, actually inch or two higher. i actually like it like that better b/c throwing it into 5th took too much effort w/ the stock short one.

I fucking had one until my car was "broke into" at a local shop and the took about 5 G's worth of shit. Now I took the stock shifter from my SI hatchback and 3rds a little difficult, but I actually really like the feel and the shape of the shifter. The B&M was shorter for me because I have an ES so it's not the same shifter.

I am considering the TWN and the kartboy. Anyone have any input on the kartboy or thw twm. It looks like all the twm guys like theirs.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend the B&M. I had it for a while and the rattling drove me up the wall. Although the machined housing looks pretty in pictures, the ball joint has about a millimeter of up/down play that can cause serious rattling if you have the motor mounts, kartboy and bronzeoil bushings.

After going back to stock, I realized the beauty of the stock design that provides zero play, without the need for precisely machined parts. The pieces that hold the ball in place are a plastic ring with a split, which allows them to sort of form around the ball when pressure is applied. The pressure is provided by the tight fitting rubber o-ring stuffed under the retaining clip.

I would recommend any other shifter that keeps this stock ball housing.

I have never had any rattling problem's out of mine. You sure you mounted it right and it sits all the way down?

YES!!! the TWM shifter is amazing (kartboy bushings to) very very "tight" (hump) but when putting the spacers on the heatshild remember where you are when your upside down under a car and dont turn the bolt the wrong way!!!! lefty loosin rigggghty tighhhty, now im stuck with a rattle until i can get my ass under that car with a drill and some other shiznit

Do you guys with the TWM short shiftera, can you/we use stock shift knob with them or no?

Sorry, I found it. I guess we either had to go with a TWM shift knob, or and aftermarket one. It seems like the MSP shift knob will NOT work. booo

Anyone have any info on the Corksport short shifter??

what?!? the later mazdaspeed knob will work fine with the TWM shifter. its the "MP3" knob that won't work.

FYI everyone, I am pretty sure Kartboy has ceased production for the Protege shifter. Too bad, 'cuz I have the SS/knob and bushings. Very nice setup for the money.
