Has anyone figured out how to stop the seat belt minder beeping. It says in the manual to call your dealer but I was wondering if anyone did it themselves.

Now why would you want to do that? Don't me tell you're one of those people who doesn't wear a seat belt?
I'd rather have that thing remind me to put on my belt instead of getting stopped by law enforcement and getting ticketed for not wearing the belt!

I think there is plenty of reason to want to turn it off. Personally, I wear a seat belt out of habit. I can't stand NOT having one on because I feel like I'm sliding all over the place. Therefore I don't find the reminder necessary at all, and it is nothing but annoying when passengers get in the car and are simply slow to put on their seat belt. I'd be fine if they could adjust it to allow people more time or reduce the number of chimes before it shuts off, but I doubt that's an option.

Honestly, I think it's ridiculous to want to shut it off. I don't move my car from "Park" until everyone has their seatbelt on, period.
And, if I put some non-living item on my passenger seat that is heavy enough to trigger it, I simply pull the seatbelt across and snap it in. Easy enough.

So if you're so responsible to a tee, why do you need it?

Because if someone decides to pull their seatbelt off while I have my eye ON THE ROAD I like to know it. My biggest complaint with seatbelt alarms is that they aren't on the backseats too.

Ditto. The driver is totally responsible for ensuring occupants are belted at all times (state law). That little buzzer isn't THAT bad, now is it?
In this day and age, I can never figure out why someone would be foolish enough to drive around without one. In my lifetime, I've been involved in 3 serious accidents and in each case, the belt/shoulder harnass saved me from serious injuries. In each of those accidents, the vehicles were total losses. So there's no doubt that seat belts are valuable.

Yup Vince, I concur ;)
When I started dating my husband he was one of those "I refuse to do it just BECAUSE the government is making me" until I told him "well, now you'll do it because your g/f says so (LOL)" -- He was in a car accident a year later and he is, to this day, thankful he had his seatbelt on, and now, it's such a habit, he doesn't even think about it.
My mom was in a car accident when I was in highschool, and she was driving an old muscle car at the time (my dad used to build racing engines)... it was old enough that the harness was a separate seatbelt from the lapbelt and she only had the lapbelt on. If she had NO seatbelt on she'd be dead. Because she didn't have the harness on she hit the steering wheel, broke her nose, her wrist and got stitches in her lip... plus a good concussion.
Seatbelts are out friend :)
Yup, seatbelts are awesome. There's this one time, me and my girlfriend were cruising on the Interstate at around 2am and the road was empty so we decided to pull over on the curbside, she then strapped both of us with the seatbelt once our bodies become one and she said "let's get it on".....oh sorry, must be a different thread LOL

I often carry a backpack with my laptop and other essentials in it and like to keep it on the front passenger seat. However I can't do that without listening to the warning bell going off the whole time so I end up putting in the "trunk". And no, I can't put it in the back seat as there are child seats back there.

If you fasten the belt, it would stop. Perhaps that would be less bothersome than using the trunk. It's probably a bit of a reach to hook up. In that case, maybe you can just leave it fastened, unless that sets off another alarm.

Annoying to me too. Sometimes I like to reach over and lean my arm around the passenger's headrest. Ding Ding Ding!...
But, first time I noticed how aggressive the alarm is I said, 'this will increase Mazda's safety ratings.'
The alarm does seem to stop after about a minute. It has also caused me to fasten my seatbelt.

Yeah I want to turn mine off too. I always wear a belt & don't need a reminder. I don't care if anyone else decides to wear theirs or not. I just want that idiot bell to not ring.
So how do you turn it off permanently?(uhm)

So, you're telling everyone here, that if a loved one is unbelted in your car and you have a horrible accident, and they're maimed/killed, you don't care?
That's basically what you're saying, just so you don't hear the "idiot bell"?

Yup thats exactly what I am saying. For that matter, no one that rides in my car ever forgets to buckle up anyway. The original poster wanted to know how to turn it off. They didn't want to open a debate about why or why not someone should turn it off.

On the contrary, the value of the forum (especially in the "HOW TO" section) is to answer a posters question. Now having said that, I along with everyone who rides in my car buckles up. I just don't need a little bell going off when I have my backpack sitting on the front passenger seat.

You could put your backpack on the floor, passenger seat, then you won't have that problem. (yippy)

I tend to put my bag in the backseat. It's too hard where I live to keep the floor mats truly clean. In fact, I spent part of tonight cleaning my muddy floormats. I can't believe I did that myself. I love this car way too much!

It is also the responsibility of the forum user to let others know when they are making a poor or dangerous choice. If I posted a question asking where I can find slicks for my street rig, I hope that someone would call me out and let me know why it is not a good idea. That said, I think if anyone had a way, they would have posted it...

Agreed, however post your moral beliefs once then let it go. I just think it's funny how my Acura TL didn't have a chime, just a light and I don't remember anyone complaining on that forum how unsafe it was.

I just want people to be able to have control over their lives. If I do not want to wear a seatbelt (I do everytime I get in the car, even to pull it out of the garage) I do not want my car to remind me to wear it. Just like I do not want traction control on my car, I want a button on my car that says leave me alone, and I will drive. It is really sad that we have to make life more difficult for some people because someone else crashed their car and sued the company that made the car. The worst part is that a court said they were right! A real good example, when you order hot coffee do you expect it to be cool enough to pour over yourself and not get burned? Why should my TV be sensored because someone else cannot or will not watch what their children are watching? Why should society bend its ways to make it easier for the lazy people? Sorry for the rant!
Just let ME control my life. I would really like the passenger beep to be disabled, I cannot tell you how many times I have put something in the seat and it beeps until I buckle the belt.

I share your frustration and I don't like being told, what to do or how to do it. Problem is, in today's society, what you do or don't do, affects people around you. For example, your car insurance, is a pooled risk. If someone gets in an accident, isn't wearing a belt, and get's severely injured, their in-hospital care is that much more expensive. Those costs, are born by all people in that insurance pool. If someone isn't covered by private insurance, then the government, through my taxes, pays the bill.
On the other hand, if that passenger were belted, in the same accident, most likely won't be severly injured. That translates into lower hospital costs. Means less impact to everyone in that insurance pool. That means my insurance premiums, in the long run, will be lower. Now, if everyone started getting foolish, stopped wearing belts and the level of accidents skyrockets, then insurance costs overall would rise and my premiums would go up.
So, I am indirectly impacted by decisions of those made around me. That's why government gets involved. It's a sad commentary on our society, but that's the way it is.

Just think about how much less the hospital bill will be if the person gets ejected from not wearing their seat belt and dies instantly. I would also say that if an Rino farts in Africa just when a breeze blows by his arse, we get a hurricane on the east coast.
I would worry more about the people who are driving without insurance or a license. What about the fact that kids these days cannot spell or add? The overall level of brainpower of this society has reached an all time low. How many kids do you know, would survive in an office setting and have to meet due dates? How many times are we going to lower the bar so people can reach it and not even try?
I turn the TV on and I see shows that have no value in society, except to lower it another knotch. Why is that a kid can turn on MTV and see someone go to another country and show the rest of the world that we "American's" think that we can do anything we want? But I have to be told to wear my seatbelt... give me a break.
When I drive down the street and I see that child run out in front of cars multiple times and then get hit... I think to myself, there goes Darwin at work again. Just strengthening the gene pool!

Took my CX-7 yesterday to have door seals installed and asked about the seat belt chime.
Tech confirms it can be disabled with PCM flash. Takes all of 15 seconds. Said it's a simple thing to do while I was there and asked me if I wanted it done, but declined. He also told me, per VA law, it's illegal to tamper with the wiring under the passenger seat, in order to disable the sensor. Apparently, the same sensor used for the seat belt reminder chime is the same sensor used for the air bag.
So, there's the answer.

Thanks Vince! On my f150, there is a pattern you have to buckle and unbuckle the belt to turn the chime off. Wasn't about to cut any wires, just thought that it might be similer. A reflash makes sense. Cool.

When I get home I like to unhook when I'm driving down the three levels of the parking garage - it's just a slow crawl around and around. I had hoped to get the chime disconnected for this situation - I wear it all the rest of the time. Anyway, the service guy said the same thing about provincial laws etc.
I suppose I could track down the chime module, but I'll probably just ignore the noise - or keep the belt on...

Probably better to just keep it on. It doesn't take much speed to get the air bag to deploy and you'll definately be glad your belt was on if it does.
