I just bought my wife a new 2006 Mazda 3 S 5 door (Strato Blue Mica) and she hates the stock Eagle RSA tires. She wants me to put different tires on it and a 225/45/17 would keep the right height (25" dia.) and be wider (around 3/4" wider). Both good. But, will the 225 clear the front struts and rear shocks? Anyone tried this?

You won't have any problems with clearance, but just make sure that the tires you chose can fit on the stock 6.5" rim. Tirerack has specs on all its tires and you can see which tire widths the tire you're looking at can fit.

I had 225/55/16 tires on my old SHO and I am pretty sure it had 6" wheels. I know they weren't 7"; maybe 6.5". I figure they will be okay.
