OK, so..if the MS6 didnt exist, what car would you have bought instead? Me...probably a Mustang GT 06 since it has the sme power and price range.
Now, another question. When it is time for you to sell/trade in your MS6...what car will you get? (noting that the MS6 is no longer in production)
To me, i dont know...i wouldve to see the new generation, but im guessing this would happen around 08-09 since i roll alot over here...gotta sell it before it wears out ya know? hehe. If thats the case, my options would be: Evo X, STi, Mustang GT, New Dodge CHallenger (spring 08), New Camaro (if its 2009), or the Pointiac G8.

i was seriously looking for the Dodge Avenger R/T to come out...never got a chance to drive one.
i was also considering an MS3, and a 6s Hatch.
next car, who knows. thats at least 6-10 years down the line

I actually stumbled onto the MS6. I was driving a Toyota MR2 Spyder, and my wife and I agreed that we should look into getting a more family-oriented car (we're trying to have a baby). I was originally looking to replace the Spyder with either a 2000-2001 BMW 540i sport, a 2004-up Maxima, or an Audi A6 2.7t. When I started seeing the incentives offered for the leftover 2006 MS6 cars, I couldn't get past the fact that the MS6 offered performance equal to or greater than the other cars, it was in most cases cheaper, and it came with a warranty. Needless to say, I love this car.

when i wasshopping for my new car it was btwn, the rx-8 and the MS6. when my lease is up i wasa thinking gowing more towards the Audi/ BMW route, just because the ms6 is my crazy young sports car, and after ill go more luxury. but my buddy just got the jeep srt-8, and i am in love! its crazy on gaz but its a MOnster.

they dont sell evos in canada right? i heard something like that...the srt-8 is just an suv designed to show american potential on our muscle car skills applied to sports utility vehicles...but if you look at it, its kind of senseless to have that on a SUV...i might be ignorant on this subject but i dont think an srt-8 will do well on offroads...it looks dangerous...too much power on a SUV!! unless it was kind of lowered like the murano, cayenne, infiniti, etc. fast suv + suv handling = dipshit. tq is what matters.

pontiac. rofl. Good luck with the resale, mechanical issues, electronic issues, and just plane it sucks issues.
I thought long and hard about what other cars I'd get right now, the legacy GT is the only thing that comes to mind but only if
i could get a sweet deal on it because otherwise its too $$$ for what it is

Would have gotten a legacy GT too but it was $$$.
What caught my attention was my housemate's mazda 6...love the cabin space (cause i travel long distance almost every weekends) and the MS6 was right there at the dealer when i went (they gave me a deal i could not resist) :D

yah, people tell me that...pontiac doesnt resale good...but that car is tempting.
I dont know what most people have with the legacy gt...i honestly dislike that car....rims is about as close as it gets to looking pretty...an STi is pretty in its own way, in the eyes of the car enthusiast...to regular people is just a ricey corolla (which is an ignorant view but that how they view it)....the MS6 has a hood scoop disguised on the mazda emblem...why not over the hood like a subie or an srt4? because its a lexury sports sedan. Subaru just has hte reputation for being sporty so they have to put a scoop on top of the hood on everything....the sti/wrx pulls it off for being race-looking, but not the legacy...wtf over?
i'll probably going to go with the Evo X....that car is plain S-I-C-K!!!...but i gotta save a bit cuz i know mitsu is probably going to put that price tag up there.

i dont know about, mechanics, or electrical, or re-sale... but i do know that untill i saw this car i hated pontiac. you guys gotta admit this is one sexy, mean looking car + 356HP!!!!!!!!!!!! the rims remind me of a mix of our ms6 rims and the SER spec v altima..
Karma_hunden
02-15-2007, 02:23 AM
356hp? where did you get that number? lol...you mean 362hp?
still nice hehe, i think they shouldve worked on the nose a bit...on the hood scoops and the lower grill, but overall, the front shot makes it look like an evo...the back shot is like a m3 and a gto...and a g6 all together. I love the interior, specially the steering wheel and gauges. But the Evo x has some nice stuff too, i guess it will be about the real acceleration numbers (0-60 and 1/4), handling, reliability, PRICE and overall...whose a better bang 4 da buck...only one way to find out...and that is...
...wait till 2008...actually, 2009...thats when all the major bugs have been reported :S

I was honeslty very close to getting a Speed3. It was just not my kind of car I guess.
Now what would I get instead of the Speed6.... I couldnt even guess. For the price I paid for the Speed6 and all the bells and whistles nothing compares.
EVO's and Sti's are awesome but they are still at 30 grand. Way beyond what I wanted to spend.
So as of now... no car other than the Speed6 ehhe. I would love to have a project car to fool around with. Something that I could mod and if I couldnt drive it for a week or two it wouldnt be life or death.

I agree with you Karma an EVO X. Heard that the Evo X was going to have a more "refined" interior than the previous models and put out a crapload more HP, and TQ than its predecessor. We'll see in the coming auto shows here in NY what it's capable of. Now if they could price it in the mid 30's.....

Are we really comparing resale value of a mazda to anything else here? Come on we know that mazda has very bad resale value, look @ what NEW ms6's are going for.......don't get me wrong I love my msp and probably won't ever sell it. But, when you drive a mazda you really can't bust on another company's resale value, however shitty it may be.

um..yes mazda resale sucks compared to some other japanese brands, but in general its not bad. my old intrepid was bought new in 1995 for $25,000. i SOLD it to a 3rd party in 2001 for $4500. my protege was bought new for $16,000 in 2001. I TRADED it in for $3750 last month. the Protege had more miles, and modifications, which brings the value down quite a bit.
so, recap:
Dodge: 6 years, loss of $20,500
Mazda: 6 years, loss of $12,250

In all fairness to your comparison, my sister had a P.O.S 98 intrepid she picked up for dirt cheap. That thing was a pile. Glovebox falling off, had to open psgr side door from inside, windows fucked, torn interior.....just being fair. I'm not sayin the protege is top of the line either, but far better build quality than an intrepid.

Back to the subject...
I bought the MS6 because of the options and the price point. It faired OK in reviews and it really fun to drive. If it didn't exist, I probably wouldn't have bought anything. I like the MS3 but I knew my next car would have to be mid-sized at best.
Lets say AWD mid-sized sporty sedan was my requirement. If I was unwilling to budge on any of those features I would have bought an Audi A4 in the same price range as the MS6. A new base-model would be on the high end or a used model to keep prices similar. The rest of the cars out there don't really appeal to me. The BMW 325xi is a nice car but I'm not a Bimmer kind of guy. I hate the styling of the Legacy GT even if it one of the fastest in this class.
If I removed the AWD component from the picture then I could consider a Mazda6 V6 and lots of other cars. But even at the highest trim level many brands don't come close to the features offered on the MS6 for its price. You are basically looking at a poor man's Audi or BMW. Mazda did a great job tackling the base models from the Germans...and did so with more power and a unique style. Around here 3-series bimmers are a dime a dozen...Mazda6s are pretty rare and MS6s are unheard of. I have yet to see one on the road since they came out...granted I wasn't always looking but you just don't see them that often.

Dodge Magnum RT awd would be my second choice. G8 with a LS7 when it comes out.

that Pontiac G8 on the website is actually the Vauxhall Vectra VXR in the UK.
looks ok but I wouldn't buy a Pontiac.
I was almost settling on getting a Graphite Grey Evo 9 MR being as they didn't have the MR in black. That was the only way I could have got the 6 speed gear box and the BBS rims, Bilstein shocks yada yada.
But decided against it because of the cheap interior (excluding the recaro's) no Crusie control, no Auto climate.
there was no option for leather on the recaros on the MR.
So of course I get my Speed 6 and a few months after there's news of the Evo 9 MR SE available in GG, Apex silver and BLACK bloody knew that would happen too.
But I drove the Speed 6 and said to the wife this is it then.
She wanted a Mazda 3, I wanted an Evo so we met in the middle. ha haha ha
I don't regret it one bit, Car is awesome.
I like the fact that it is stealthy to say the least.
If I had gone with an Evo or the STI I would had a lot more unwanted attention, the Rear spoilers are a dead give away.
But now that the EVO X is on the horizon I would love to get one of those. But the price point is going to be $40,000 I can't afford that.

Don't forget. The more you spend on a car, the more you lose. Spending $25,000 on an American car is always gonna cost you more. You basically bought a $25,000 car with an $18,000 depreciation value. $7,000 gone within the first 6 months you owned it. There's not enough of an original purchase price to a $16000 car to drop that much in that time frame. Depreciation is always lower on a cheaper car, because it has less to drop. It's more accurate to compare cars that cost the same amount of money. Dodge definitely has more depreciation then Mazda, but comparing Mazda to other Japan makes, it's one of the worst, if not the worst.
There's an unfortunate reality that comes with these crazy incentives on Mazda vehicles, especially the Speed 6. When they are forced to sell off the cars for these kind of prices, it means sales are low, and the demand is low, so the depreciation will be insanely high. The more affordable Mazda you buy, the less depreciation you take.
I went into my Speed 6 purchase knowing I'm gonna have to keep this a long time and esentially drive it into the ground, or suffer the wrath of high depreciation. If it's resale value you want in a Japanese car, you'd be smart to avoid Mazda. Subaru is far better, and of course Honda and Toyota are the mac daddies. ;)
