is there a way to test and see if a bov is leaking before you install it on the car. i bought a used type-s and wanted to make sure everything was ok before i went through the trouble of mounting it on my cold pipe.

Doesn't matter (always small leaks out of BOV's). WHats important is if it will stay shut for a given amount of boost . the way to tell that is install it on the car and drive. if you can't maintain boost (spikes then falls to a certain PSI every time, regarless of boost controller setting) then it needs a tighter spring or adjusted tighter. If that don;t help then something else is possibly wrong
IF your running less than 15 psi, i wouldn't worry about it. Stock shitty bosch plactic valves are good to 18-20 psi. My other , no name ebay, BOV works just fine at 26 psi with only needing to add a few washers to it to tighten the spring.
