View Full Version : True Red MS3 and police!

I'm in the middle of deciding whether or not I should go with True Red or Black Mica for my Mazdaspeed3 GT. The dealer said he would give me the True Red for $24,000 since it has been on the lot for about a month now, and he obviously wants to move the inventory. The Black Mica I have on order won't arrive until late March, and I am getting that for sticker, $24,550.

I like both colors, leaning more towards the True Red. But I've only owned black cars (more stealthy), and I'm afraid that I'll stick out like a sore thumb to the police with a red car!
(five-0)

My question is to you True Red MS3 owners: Have you been getting pulled over more often since you got your car?

Also, this question is for everyone: True Red or Black Mica and why?(dunno)

Thanks!

i have a black MS3 sport and I was pulled over 5 days after I bought it. When i had my velocity red RX-8 I was pulled over 3 or 4 times in 3 years.

My daily drivers have all been red or yellow and I've never had a problem. A cop will see you being an ass no matter what color it is. I'm going for the cosmic blue myself as it looks really understated.

statistically white cars get pulled over more often than red. I know several officers and they say they notice white cars more than colored ones.

Silver all the way, but in the end its what YOU like. Screw everyone else. ALSO if you like both Colors then why not save yourself 550 bones and use it for rims or ?????

My wife wanted TRUE RED bad, but personally i thought it was too much, and besides i always wanted a silver car. Once she saw the silver model , its was all over. Red has the "Look at me" factor, other colors, Especially the blue, have that" WTF was that" factor....... :D

We'll if I had to choose between those two colors, it would be True Red...Reason behind it, Black Mica is a little more work in taking care of and also shows EVERYTHING when it comes to scratches, swirls and etc...But if you can take up the challenge with Black Mica, go for it...As for the price, take up the offer with True Red and maybe you can get it a little cheaper the way it seems too...

IMO if you're doing something stupid that warrants being pulled over, it doesn't matter what color car you're in. I've been driving yellow for two years and never gotten pulled over before.

I have not yet noticed a police officer look my way as I drive by. Heck, I haven't even seen anyone in a WRX, STi, or Evo look my way... They must think it's just a regular Mazda3 that just happens to be "arrest-me-red."

As for choice in color, I'd just stay way from black in general. Cars in black tend to get hotter faster in the cabin during the summer months.

I agree, I dont think they give two craps about the color. I havent had anyone notice my hot red ride and it kinda sucks..lol

^ This post really hit the nail on the head!

Thanks for all the replies and insight. I was really torn between the two colors. I mean I've owned 5 black cars so far! I like the Black Mica but I wanted something different and the True Red really stood out... literally! I just put a hold on the True Red, so hopefully I will be able to sell my car and get the MS3 this coming weekend or as soon as possible. I hope I don't start driving like an ass, because, boy does that car make you want to drive faster! (drive2)

its up to you , but i would personally go with black. Anyways, the color red attracts the eye that is why stoplights are red.
Think about it this way, if you were to walking down a side walk parallel to a busy road and quickly glanced at all the cars together I gauruntee that you would see a bright red car amoung all the other colors very easily. Your eye naturally picks it out, however, red is a great color for this car no doubt. Enjoy whatever color ms3 you get, its a nice car!

I got the black for exactly that reason, the MS3 is very subtle so far and most police officers probably don't track the current trends in sports tuner cars.. If a bright red camaro/vette blew past me doing 85 I would see him first, same black mazda 3 behind doesnt even get a second glance.

I wanted the red though, it looks so hawt. Actually I wanted the aurora blue but thats not a ms3 color yet :(

Yea why couldn't Mazda made the royal blue color avaible. (i dunno color name) . My Wife and i both made the mistake of saying yeap we'll take a MS3 in that color, just to hear, that isn't an option color. thats BS.

True Red is a beautiful color, don't let this myth stop you from getting it. I got pulled over in my dark grey four door accord than I have on my true red ms3.

Keyboard = $20 bucks or less (sometimes wireless like I use, $30)
Spell Check and a quick once-over before you type = free

Understanding and comprehending what you are trying to convey = Priceless

Also, Silver PWNS, or something like that, I suXX0rx at l33t typing, oh noes..

Siilver looks good, IMO. I'm not saying this to screw up my luck, but I've accidentally flown by a cop in the MS3, and haven't been busted yet, even then. Silver blends. Also, not stabbing your brake light as to make a cop focus in on you, ..thats a good idea. Better to use engine braking.

So a funny thing happened last night. On my way home, I get stopped by a cop. I'm thinking, "What the hell did I do?!?" I roll down the window, and the first thing the officer says is, "Is this a Mazdaspeed3?" He just wanted to check out the car; the officer is an Evo owner. I had my Mazdaspeed3 emblem removed... Apparently, that wasn't enough. (second)

I think he was discussing the cop detaining someone (pulled over) just to check out the car. A cop can pretty much determine anything as probable cause to investigate.

yea but...thats a bit ridiculous......if he said "hey is that the new mazdaspeed3? ooh its nice...k ur good to go." thats bs he cant do that.....unless u were speeding or something and that question just came up since the mazdaspeed3 is the best car ever made.....

cops can do whatever they want. we let them get that far through legislation and lack of revolt when they creep ever further in our business.

Luckily, that incident wasn't a bad one. Still, ...could you imagine what he would have been thinking if you RAN? LOL! "Geez, I just wanted to say "hey, nice car!" You never know.

Was he by chance a sherrif? Big white guy with short blond hair? Cuz i had a sherrif ask me about my car the other day while i was driving down Stevens Creek. It was funny to tell him to buy this ticket getting car.

Nope... He was a San Jose Police officer. What's funny is that this same cop stopped me last summer when I was driving my old Sentra SE-R. That car had expired tags, a loud exhaust, rollbar, CF hood, etc. It wasn't a car I drove daily, as my daily car at the time had two flat tires. He let me go back then since I explained to him my situation. It didn't seem like he remembered me this time around.

Same thing happened to me...except he didn't turn on his lights. He just smiled and signaled me to pull over. I knew it wasn't a bad thing. We chatted a bit about my car. He asked me some numbers (263 HP / 280 torque) and that was it. I wasn't speeding at the time, (I saw him.) but he saw the "True Red" at a distance and knew what it was. To be honest, the whole "50 feet" rule for Mazdaspeed 3s is only given away by their tires in my opinion.

I quote:

"Three conditions must be met before a vehicle receives the Mazdaspeed designation. First, it must have styling that sets it apart from the standard version. Specifically, there must be significant functional external design differences noticeable from 50 feet, per a mandate laid down by Mazda's executive vice president, Robert Davis."

i was between two colors too...i think blue is just blue, silver is silver...the car is awesome and it looks great in all...but too me the silver and hte black one can be MORE easily confused with a regular 3 since the silver is nice yet common, the black hides all the small details and the blue one looks ok...they dont have that color for the regulars, but i dont think anyone would notice that...the red one sticks out even if people think its a regular. I like all of them, you just pitch me one ;)
