I recently had my turbo replaced. On the second day I had it home it started making this loud ass chatter/squeak combo. I started getting paranoid Mazda fucked something up. I ignored it, hoping it wouldn't happen again.
Well, it came back again that night. But, on top of that my car started idling to the point where it was going to stall (more on this, non-related incident later). I decided I needed to find out what the hell it was. I checked the engine bay while it was doing it and kept hearing it on the right side of the bay, which meant it couldn't be the engine, unless the sound was through the intake. I started lightly pushing on things in the area the noise was coming from. I eventually pushed on the tb -> ic pipe. The noise had then stopped. It turns out the rubber grommet in the top radiator bracket was making all the noise. I'm not sure why it just started doing it, but its quite annoying. I'm assuming its just dry and maybe needs replacement.
I wanted to pass this info on because I saw how easily someone could make the mistake of thinking the sound is coming from the engine. I've been lurking these forums since 2003 (various usernames) and I know I've seen tons of posts that have similar symptoms.
Oh, and as for why the car was having issues with stalling... I had just left the battery disco'd for about 2 hours. I'm guessing it was the ecu relearning because it stopped later that night.
