So Ive seen a lot of posts about how the MS3 killed the Mustang, the VW, the Civic, the Scion, the XYZ, the ABC, you name it....
Aside from the customary: take it to the track, street racing doesnt prove anything other than you are mortal warning Ill add a second warning:
While the MS3 is fast, a sports car bordering on supercar performance it is NOT.... take a step back and get a reality check specially if you were the idiot on the 101 fwy yesterday trying to score another kill. WTF were you thinking? while it will give EVO's and subi's a run for their money all you'll get against the likes of the corvettes is to be a nice backstop for the flying rubber and people laughing their ass off at how stupid you look trying to smoke a car completely out of your class.....
Sorry I had to vent... had an idiot (yes in a MS3 sadly enough) try to egg me on to race him. Guy started getting dangerous (cut in front, slam on brakes, get next to me and rev the engine, etc....) - should have seen the look on his face when he got boxed in doing 55 MPH behind the old lady from Pasadena...
Wasn't me dude, I swear! lol I'm well aware of my car's place on the food chain, not to mention I don't street race.
What color was it? Were you in the C6 or the MS3?
I get stuck behind the old lady from Pasadena all the time... she's EVERYWHERE!

Sounds like you ran into a real asshole! Hopefully, most of us (including me if I ever get the MS3) will have sense to take care, drive wisely, and respectfully. With that said, I wouldn't misinterpret people's enthusiasm about their cars on this site to equate to delusions of grandiosity or death wishes on the highway.

Understood... be assured I wont place all who post enthusiastic posts in my ahole bucket...mainly I just needed to vent- it was just disapointing that the one other MS3 I finally run into on the road happens to have the AHole of the year as a driver...but all makes have their lot I understand that

Your going to find a lot of younger drivers in these things that have no idea where they stand in the food chain and buy this car with the sole purpose of using it to race when ever they can. Testosterone plus reasonable speed = idiots. Any car you want to run against will likely be at the drag strip, local auto cross or road course. No reason for behavior like that in road going traffic.

it wasn't me. i was driving from dealer in glendale to culver like a little old lady with my black GT. I only really gunned it a little this morning to work.
street racing when there is heavy traffic is no no
When there is no cars on the street .. 1am-5am... then it's all good as long as you know the risk of going to jail and getting your license suspended.
As for me, i know a friend of mine who owns private land. Lucky me :)

Being an older, not that old though, member I can agree that street racing isn't the smartest thing to be doing, but occasionally it happens even if you are just opening the engine up for a moment. I know where my car stands on the food chain, and I wouldn't egg a big fish on, but sometimes if the big fish feels like running, I'll run with him. I know I don't stand a chance but it is nice to give them a little surprise doing as good as we can.

Nope aint going to happen unless grandpa is the one behind the wheel... comparing a few specs between the two:
BOTH cars weight about the same
MS3 has roughly 260 HP/ 280 ftlbs
C6 has roughly 400 HP/ 400 ftlbs
MS3 has 60/40 weight distribution
C6 has nearly 50/50 weight distribution
the c6 is a completly different beast from the MS3, the one thing they both share in common is "hell of a bang for the buck" and a high "fun" coefficient....
(No Im not trying to prove the C6 is better than the MS3 just that they are sufficiently different cars with different goals in mind)

I think that some people who are somewhat new to the car scene or have had little seat time in other cars with varying levels of performance will get a false sense about the MS3. The MS3 is very quick for a small performance hatch.
I've ridden in 500hp street cars, a 450hp Viper GTS, a Porsche GT3, and a few other VERY fast cars. While the MS3 is certainly no slouch, there are levels of performance out there that obliterate it. It's hard to imagine just how hard something else can accelerate until you sit your ass in a seat and do it.
Then enter in the whole motorcycle thing. While that's a totally different feeling...you really get an idea how fast and quick something can be with you are nailing 100 in just over 5 seconds.

The car isn't fast, it's sporty, and reasonably quick for what it is - a commuter vehicle that allows for smiles on your face. What it is not is a sports car. The car runs 14's stock on the front 2 wheels. The majority of the performance cars out now and coming out are deep in the 13's - 11's on a drag strip. Vettes, Shelby's, Mustangs the new Camaro, the Challenger (depending on engine choice), EVO's, STi's... These were all built with different things in mind.

Now that the idiot is out of me, i will admit i have done some runs on LEGAL streets against different cars in both my MS3 and my SVO. I refuse to intentionally get on the freeway and run someone. Its just not the place. I regularly take my SVO to the track (thus thr reason my clutch is shot after 7k miles) I haven't had the MS3 to the track or dyno YET. but i see it in the near future.
I have seen guys that run on freeways late at night at 80 punches to 1XX, and i just wonder..........Why? Its not so much i'm worried about them killing themselves, its the inoccent lady, thats going home to papa after a long night at work, i worry about.

sports car
–noun a small, high-powered automobile with long, low lines, usually seating two persons.
American Heritage Dictionary -
n. An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds.
The MS3 is NOT a sports car. Its a sporty hatchback but it is definatley not a sports car. The Miata is Much more of a sports car than the MS3 will ever be despite being MUCH slower You want reasons?
1. It's got 4 doors: Most true sports cars have 2 doors
2. It's Front wheel drive: most true sports cars are RWD
3. It's tooo HEAVY: The MS3 weighs over 3300 pounds
4. It's not very aerodynamic
5. It's center of gravity is far too high
6. It's Front wheel drive
7. It's Front wheel drive
8. It's Front wheel drive
In conclusion, while being a very fast, very sporty hatchback, the MS3 is most definatly not a sports car.

Interesting web definition of a sports car
A simple definition of a sports car is "a small low car with a high-powered engine, and generally seats two people". This is more or less a "textbook" definition but gives us an idea of what the public perceives to be a sports car.
The Houghton Mifflin dictionary defines a sports car as: "An automobile equipped for racing, especially an aerodynamically shaped one-passenger or two-passenger vehicle having a low center of gravity and steering and suspension designed for precise control at high speeds". This dictionary definition does not seem to capture the general perception of what the public sees as a sports car.
The Houghton Mifflin definition of the "two seat rule" seems out-of-date. Many sports cars today offer small back seats (sometimes referred to as 2+2 seating) and there is a current movement underway to increase the seating room in models long considered sports cars by most automotive experts.
Insurance companies use their own formula in classifying automobiles and often the presence of two doors automatically makes any car a "sports car" in their eyes. This perspective, of course, is as overly simplistic as the standard dictionary approach to defining a sports car. One can certainly think of any number of two door vehicles that fall far short of being an actual sports car. Economy cars and even larger two-door vehicles that are not built with power and performance in mind should not qualify as true sports cars.
Some car buffs will refer to high-performance muscle cars and other larger vehicles as sports cars. Others, however, draw a distinction between these vehicles and "true" sports cars. These individuals will claim that a car can be a "sporting car" or simply "sporty" but still fall short of being a true sports car. Thus, "regular" cars may be outfitted with a "sports package" and/or accessories to make the car sportier, but may not fit a strict definition of a sports car.
Not all automotive enthusiasts, however, embrace this restrictive view of sports cars. In many circles, a sports car is any car offering greater performance or power than more standard offerings. This school of thought will consider muscle cars and other larger vehicles designed with performance in mind as sports cars.
Others will maintain that the distinction between a sports car and any other type of car lies in how the car's suspension and handling are addressed. Technical debates rage over whether various suspension packages qualify as belonging to true "sports cars".
Some will argue that a sports car can be defined by its intentions. If the car is designed for performance more so than for utility, they say, it is a sports car. This intent-based definition, however, provides little guidance in determining whether a car is a sports car or not. Particularly in the modern era, the notion of designing a car of any sort without significant consideration of its feasibility and utility seems unlikely. Any commercially viable vehicle, regardless of its performance, must retain significant utility.
Road and Track, a leading automotive publication, summarizes the sports card definition debate with a simple observation: "Ask five people the exact definition of a sports car, and you'll likely get five different answers".
There is no clear-cut definition of what really is a sports car. The restrictive definitions of the past seem ill suited to categorize today's' diverse automotive offerings and common usage of the term runs contrary to most long-held definitions.
There is, however, a common thought that seems to run through almost all of the outlooks on the meaning of "sports car". If a car is designed with high performance or race-like capabilities in mind, it can probably be safely termed a sports car. Some purists may balk at such a liberal perspective, but alternative definitions fall far short of accurately distinguishing sports cars form regular production models.

There is your prototypical definition of sports car. There is some leeway.
For example, cars like the BMW M3, Audi RS4, Cadillac CTS-V, e.t.c have a lot of the characteristics of the prototypical sports car so they are called sports sedans or coupes.
But the MS3 by virtue of being FWD alone, this just about totally disqualifies it form being a sports car.
Theres a reason why you don't seea lot of FWD race-cars.
There is lee-way in the definition of what a sports car is but to call the MS3 a sports car is a stretch I'm not willing to make.
Its VERY good for what it is but a sports car, it is not.

A true sports car is 2 or less passenger capacity high powered and RWD. Of the ones I mentioned, only the Vette is a sports car. The rest were pony cars or based off rally cars. The MS3 is a sport compact. - FWD, high powered econo car. The basis of this car was never designed for high performance competition like a Vette, Porche, Lotus ect..

The G55 AMG has a V8 with 469 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
The handbuilt 5.5-liter supercharged V-8 to can get to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds, setting it squarely next to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo in terms of 0-to-60 track performance.
Look me in the eye and tell me that since its as fast as the porshe and makes big HP and torque numbers that it can be called a sports car or sports truck or whatever.
Theres wiggle room as to the definition, but the MS3 is not a sports car
BTW: This is all in the spirit of good fun debate. No malice on my part, I very much like the MS3 and would own one in a heartbeat.

I want to see them negotiate a hairpin turn. LOL technically they use thrust to move, not powering the rear wheels to drive.

Only one true SPORTS CAR in the world. Bugatti VERYON (spelling)
16 cyl, 4 turbos, 1001 hp and 260+ top speed. thats a F@#$ING SPORTS CAR!
:EDIT: Def. of a sports car is, a car that is only attainable by the elite members of society. Like the above mentioned vehicle. a Corvette though nice is not a true sports car. the ZO6 on the other hand might be. (stirring the pot rrrreeeaaallllllll slow :D )
Oh and my MS3 :D

Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Dart, Challenger, Cuda, Original charger... they were all pony cars. Too small to be muscle cars, and too many seats to be a sports car. The vette is a sports car. Thats it's only role in life. The Viper is also a sports car. Those cars were designed with competition in mind. Vettes even have their transmissions in the back of the car and their engines in the front for weight distribution. T56's are huge transmissions. The Z06 just takes it a bit further. The damned floor pans on that thing is made of balsa wood and carbon fiber.

Some say the Z06 is so light, it would float if placed in a tub of water (peep)

Well i'm setting up my "PONY" car mustang to Whoop up on Silly Corvette Owners. On top of that, I'm going to Really hurt their feelings by showing them my silly 2.3 turbo motor.
I love my SVO, though sometimes i could just set a brick on the pedal and have a beer. Did i mention Dynamite............. :D
When the car does run right and not break stuff, it sure is a hoot to drive. Even more fun with unsuspecting V8 Owners. I love going to the local track (though they are getting used to seeing me) and setting up a race. then running them, and coming back poping the hood. It never fails someone always walks away pissed that it wasn't just another Mustang that beat them, IT WAS A *Bleeping* 4CYL.
Ok back to topic: Yea i hate idiot drivers kill them all. :D

I have to admit the turns this thread has taken has been rather amusing... triple jet engines... LOL! thanks everyone I needed the laughs... now if the damn stereo shop would finish my amp installs... getting impatient....
back on topic: no need to kill the idiots just restrict them to the slow lane

Actually the Corvette would be more a Sports Car by definition of "Sports". The Veyron is actually beyond the realm of tradition sports cars, which is why we have the class of "Super Car". The Veyron is a Super Car. LOL
MS3 is a Sports Compact AND it's a car... therefore it must be a Sports (Compact) Car
I'm just throwing logs in the fire. But I think my Super Car theory is very well thought out. Indeeed.

A bit off topic, but in line with the definition of "Sports". I took a flight from California to Washington DC with a rear axle housing as checked baggage; I was delivering it to my chassis builder and fortunately was sent on a business trip at that time. It was wrapped in heavy cardboard. At the check in I was prepared to pay a fee for excess bagage and when the clerk was trying to figure out what to charge me, the guy at the next desk chimes in "Is that sports equipment? Sports equipment is free!" So of course I said yes (well it was for a sports car). They filled out this form and when the description line was to be filled in asked me what to put - I said it's a "sports thing" so that's what they put in the form. Beat the hell out of paying for freight!
Sports car is all in how you think. A Caddy can be a sports car if it is driven properly. A Miata can be a cruiser too. YMMV

Hey now! Why do people always have to assume that Vette drivers are assholes that don't appreciate other cars for what they are?(poke):)

That's like saying all Jeep Wrangler drivers are date rapists who are on the Rugby team when in reality, it's only 40% who are.
