For some reason or another i have an exhaust leak in the front cat... Just happened at like 39,800 something miles (40k is wannty) so i coudnt get it fixed in time. Any suggestions? I just put on the original muffler. So should i just get new exhaust or get another original one? I dont plan on modding it alot.. But i would like mid 14's.. So what size? and what kind? Thanks.

if it is indeed that cat that is leaking, mazda is required by government law to replace it under warranty, as long as you have less that 80,000 miles (i believe thats the limit). swing by mazda south (they are the best dealership) and see what they can do

if i remember correctly, the fedral mandated warranty onthe cat is 80k miles. might be worth it to talk to your dealer just in case.

I just went through with my car. The warranty only covers it if it is failing. I was denied the warranty because the cats were functioning properly just had a hole in them.

i was just thinking, if it a pipe leak, see if a local welding shop will patch it up for you.

personally i would reccomend going with an aftermarket midpipe, with a cat if you are concerned about environmental issues. The cat section of the MSP exhuast is by far the most restrictive. With my 2.5 inch apex midpipe (replaces the 'cat' section and the next section closer to the turbo, the j-pipe), which includes a single hi-flow cat so you pass emissions without any electronic trickery, i noticed a big difference in the top end pull of the car. If you can get it replaced for free from the dealer, thats always a viable option, i mean, its free.... but if you have to spend any money on it i would STRONGLY reccomend getting an aftermarket one. 2.5" is plenty if you're not doing lots of modding.

With A 2.5 Will I Lose My Low End?

... no. 2.5" piping is more than enough for anything under 250hp, if i'm recalling the numbers right. And no you shouldn't loose any low end, i'm simply commenting that i felt the most increase in the high end.

Turbo cars are different, they gain power wherever as long as the turbo spins easier. Since the turbo has less backpresure to keep it from spinning it will spool sooner and maintain speed, so you gain low end and top end.

Look for a used mam mid-pipe. Should be able to pick one up with a hi flow cat for around 100. They were only 200 new. Just some food for thought.
