Seen here undergoing cold-climate testing close to the Arctic Circle somewhere in Never-Never-Land of northern Sweden is the all-new Audi A5 which is going to be a sporty coupe adapting the design of Audi’s Nuvolari concept car. The show car was on display at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 2003 and our photos confirm that the new coupe will be considerably larger than the current A4, actually almost the size of today’s A6.

With the A5, Audi intends to be a step ahead of the strong A4 competitors such as BMW 3-Series Coupé, Mercedes CLK and the VW-Convertible Eos. Due to the bigger size, Audi is indeed about to fill a gap on the sporty coupe-market. Neither the BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-class model ranges nor any other car maker in this class and size has a luxury coupe on offer.

At a later stage, the new Audi A5 convertible is going to be equipped with a traditional canvas top, while power for both versions is expected to come from two engines, a 3.0-litre TDI V6 and 3.2-litre FSI V6 petrol unit delivering 255 HP. The new model is expected to be released by the end of 2007.

I would have thought that the A5 would be Audi's response to the BMW e92, MB CLK, Lexus IS sportcoupe, and the next Infiniti G35 coupe. It does look larger then the A4 cab.

I agree, body lines remind me of a pontiac grand prix, way to plain for the money & I bet the production version doesn't even come with the baja lighting.

Maybe its just the wheel/tire combo and lack of aero package that makes the car look uber lame, everyone. Audi doesn't have any lame ass cars in the market right now, I'd wait to see what the final product will look like.

G35 Coupe please. Unless the final version ends up looking much more dramatic.

i think there is a nice car under there.. Just the winter wheels and camouflage is creating the wrong illusion. I have every bit of faith in Audi in making a nice looking car
