I would question the functionality of that hood scoop. look like the one simliar to my SVO. in windtunnel testing done on my SVO, it was found that anything over 50mph created a vacume and sucked air out the hood. ram air effect only worked at lower speeds.

this might work though.

Still looks like crap i think

It would be really nice if someone would come out with an OEM CF hood for the speed3.

For most people it is the bling factor that makes them get CF hoods. If you are going to do that you might as well make it "different". Some people claim it is to save weight. So the real test is how much weight do you save?

Not many people have a CF hood on the Evo as the weight of the Evo aluminum hood is pretty low. Some people do put it on for that bling factor.

All that said the MS3 hood does seem to be heavier than the Evo hood so switching will probably give you a minimal performance gain. Are you looking for a performance gain or the bling factor?

If you look very closely you will see above the grill that the grill still has the duct to get air to the intercooler. The hood scoop is just for the Air filter or CAI.
That is what I can get from the photo. Not a fact as I have not seen the hood from the bottom side. Painted red as factory and this hood is SICK as HELL. I will buy one tomorrow if it has the under hood set up for the intercooler.
It is Just sick...(shocked)

If the top scoop is for the intercooler, I believe it would have a negative affect. You have air being forced both ways.

A lot of people would benefit probably more if they would lay off the fast food and get some exercise. Nothing makes me laugh like a 300lb guy telling me he bought a CF hood for the weight reduction.

Dude, some of us are just big. I'm 6'2" and I admit that I'm overweight but when I was in the Navy and worked out I was still 240-250.

As for weight reduction for a CF hood... again how much does the stock one weigh? If you can knock off 50 Lbs off the hood great, but if you are looking at a 5 lb difference I don't think it's worth the expense. And I have yet to see a 50 Lb hood on any car.

I wonder where they put the fogs on this one... that looks like a great space to put the CAI.

That hood would look sweet if it was all painted except for the inside parts of the scoops. I really like the lip too...kinda similar to the DG lip for the P5s.

You will be going faster than light speed. SO there is no use for them.(omg)

WOW $1300 for an IC. But the company that makes the hood and the front lip, do they have a web site to order that stuff from. I like the hood contrary to most other people.
Thanks

Thats because its a concept and most likely not available. Mazdaspeed Japan does not have it in their catalog. Bodykits.com has it pictured but they dont make it.

So THAT'S why bodykits.com has been so wishy-washy with answers. DAMNIT! I wonder if I can have someone custom-fabricate the kit with my money, then we each have a 'stake' in making it a full-market item and split profits? Seriously, Ken, do you know anyone who's interested in a venture like this? Limited run of MS3 prototype all-around body kits??

Hmm; well, you have a better chance on knowing/accessing someone like this than I do... I can ask some friends though, I know a buddy who is very into the tuner scene in Indy with his SRT-4. If we could hash an outline for this as a little short-run limited production product I would be down; it's worth it, that yellow prototype is SO hot.

I'm very curious if they've addressed the issue of water intrusion with that hood scoop, or if you're just never supposed to drive it in the rain. Too much water through the intercooler on top of the valve cover = fried coilpacks.

A naive question, if you don't mind: can the coilpacks be moved? Perhaps a shield of sorts?

redspeed
11-09-2007, 11:45 PM
I don't think it would be easy. Probably you could get a separate set of coils, you know the ones that use spark plug wires but no old school ignition, and hack up some wire harness to the stock signal wires that go to the original ones. May be really difficult, if not impossible.
