OK, I just bought a Cosmic Blue MS3 and I cannot get a straight answer from Mazda on this. Did any of you get a flip key with your car in addition to the two regular remote key fobs? I have searched for hours on the net and I am getting conflicting info there too. Also, does your car have special MS valve stem caps or silver plastic ones?
Thanks.

No, we did not get flip keys.
those are Tire pressure monitor sensors.
Not just special valve stems.

Appreciate the info. I think you may be wrong about the valve stem caps. The pressure sensors are attached to the inner part of the wheels. Tire Rack give some info on that.
I found some technical documents on the net that specifically mention that the only 2007 model that got a flip key was the MS3. I was just trying to verify.
Thanks.

The reason I was asking about the valve stem caps on the wheels is because two of my wheels had no cap at all. The other two had silver plastic caps that are not special in any way.

They are one unit. A credit card sized thing inside the wheel attached to the valve stems.
The only model that DIDN'T get the flip key is the MS3.

I see where the confusion is coming from. I am not talking about the valve stem itself, just the caps. Are yours engraved aluminum with the MS logo, or are the just silver plastic?

Thanks for all the replies. i just wanted to make sure the dealership wasnt screwing me out of anything the car was supposed to come with.
On a more positive note, I did get a free Mazda iPod adapter for the car, although I am hearing some horror stories about getting the adapter to work properly.
BTW, did anyone else pay over sticker for their car? I paid about US$400 over taking into account the iPod adapter. They originally wanted $2000 over and I read that in some parts of the country (Kalifornia) they were asking $5000 over. Just one more reason to hate the dealership system in this country.

u guys should leave the stock stem caps because the core inside the stem is made of a special metal and its easy to corode
on the stock cap there's a seal inside of it
when it corode , the neck of the stem snap like a twig when u try to remove the core
its about 200-400bucks for a other pressor monitoring sensor + the reset
careful with those guys

Dude - any decent cap has a rubber gasket on the inside to keep out water!!
Unless if you are puttin some crappy cap that you got from China. :):)

it's corrosion between metal cap and the threads on the stem that is getting the caps stuck, no gasket will help. There's even a TSB on this for the 3.

I had the same metal caps on my old car, and they seized up after 3-4 months, required pliers to get those things off.
I would never use them again. (nuts)

I've had metal caps on my Evo for years and they have never seized... Of course I check my tire pressure weekly. Do you guys check your pressure weekly or weakly?

At what PSI will the TPMS tell you your pressure is low? In my old car, I could feel the diff. in tire pressure just by feel when going through one of the turns that I passed daily.

Nice
Corrosion caused by Galvanic Action where 2 metals in the galvanic range are dissimilar.
The less noble metal is sacrificial and corrodes first to protect the more noble metal. This principle is used to preserve Oil and Gas platforms offshore.
The corrosion in this case occurs where the dissimilar metals contact causing the threads to seize.
If you really want to install the aftermarket caps you could try Teflon Tape/Paste or some Neverseize.
Personally I would stick to the factory caps but what the heck, live a little.
Sorry for the boring post.

I believe zinc is the most common sacrificial metal used on naval vessels. Or at least it was, back in the day...

I personaly dont check my pressure as much as I should, then again, the my Mazda3 has a low tire pressure indicator.
