wow. that's no real surprise...hell, there are dealers with a ton of '06s still left on their lots. they're offering 6K rebate + 1250 dealer cash on '06 f150 crew cabs...the car business ain't what it used to be.

Even with amazing rebates, I still wouldn't buy a Mustang.

no kidding...i've heard from our ford rep that something along those lines is in the works...but who knows what/when. to give you an idea of how bad it is for FMC...all of our reps had to re-apply for their jobs. they've closed most of their regional offices. ford motor credit is down to 4 i believe...or will be within the year. it isn't just the plants they are closing down.
i think there are a few reasons they're suffering. 1. their product. most of the cars they sell are crap (ie, focus)...the fusion is nice...the five hundred is bland...the crown vic, well...you can buy a grand marquis MUCH cheaper and it's the same damn car. the f150's are uncomfortable...the cloth fabric stains if you get water on it...and the seats are hard as shit. 2. pricing. we have an f150 that lists for 39K...i've seen some over 40K...how fucking retarded is that? it's a damn truck. the car lines aren't THAT over-priced (although they could come off on the focus, imo)...and have you priced an edge? leather, dvd, sel+ package = 32K...nice. 3. they need something exciting instead of the same old shit. everything is so boring...hey, i've got an idea...let's build something that looks GOOD and performs well.
oh well, just my .02

You left out the Unions in that list of things wrong with ford.

Don't forget that the domestic companies in general build more cars than they can sell. Ford is just now cutting down on that. But still, you're right, product is the main problem.

To survive in todays car market you need a "bread and butter" car. Honda has Civics, Mazda has the 3's, BMW is the 3 series and Toyota has the Corolla. Ford used to have one; which was the Taurus, that is when they were doing well. They don't have a bread and bbutter car now and that is why they are in trouble.

Actually for Honda, it's the Accord and for Toyota it's the Camry. I doubt they make a lot of money on either the Civic or Corolla compared to the other two.

Ford/ Lincoln products are typically gas guzzling, unreliable, and boring stylistically, Is anyone really surprised? Granted some of the previous Corolla and Camry offerings have come off as boring style wise, but they had reliability, economy, and build quality in it's corner.
BTW - I laugh everytime I see the Gillette Sensor razor front grills on their new car and mommy van models.

HAHA! That's exactly what I think of :) How designers think this is inspiring is beyond me. Although some of the Waffle Fry grills I can justify.

there's acutaly quite a few out here, that along with the five hundreds, even my mom's company car is a ford fivehundred, along with the other company car's nationwide insurance puchased (being fords, not necessarly five hundreds) most of them can be attributed to more ford loyality in the area however, because as many fusions and 500's as I've seen, I've also seen a good deal of new camry's and tons of the new civic's and accords.
