Hey Im wondering if there is a MSP6 out there that hits anything lower than 13.3 at the 1/4mile?

Im currently starting a project. I found out the MSP6 has a lot of restrictions that are holding the power back, starting with the exhaust system.

1) Im gonna get the cp-e catless downpipe and an exhaust to liberate all that. Would go for an open exhaust but not my style. Whats the best exhaust out there with best gains and sound? Im not looking for a loud one, infact, sinc eim building a dumb hunter (car that looks stock), im looking for the BEST & MOST QUIET...the magnaflow seem to pass the noise test....its somewhat loud when revved but quiet when running low rpms. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

2) Im also looking forward on the TMIC upgrade that shows dyno gains of 18whp-19tq to the wheels. And reduces the heatsoaking problem that the Speed6 has since it doesnt have a STi-like hood scoop. To reduce this problem even more, I will remove the lower plastic cover of the engine bay to increase air ventilation...probably a few more whp/tq gains there.

3) A boost controller and some coilovers that will prevent rise when launching, which will increase the grip of the front tires.

4) Boost Gauge.

5) And some fatter tires. So far 225 is a perfect fit, although a 235 is possible, im not quite sure if it will rub or wrap itself around the rim. We think the RX-8 wheel can fit up to a 245 on the Speed6, not too sure on that. Im currently researching that.

6) I will change the transmission oil, for smoother shifts...I makes a big difference. We have tried it on STi's and Evos and it works.

No intake for me, since it doesnt show any big gains and only increases my chances of hydrolocking my engine, since i live in rainy South Florida.

I dont really know how far that will put me but I hope its somewhere in the mid 13s, hopefully a low 13 when I run good. No looking to strip my car like some ricer, I want to keep my passenger seat, and my doors, etc LOL

So if anyone has any suggestion towards what else is missing or what i should do instead of what Im currently planning, that would be great.

Let's make this a thread for all to those that want to lower their times and increase that power!!(first)

In all honesty just from reading forums and such I would say just hold off for 6 months. Right now the aftermarket for the Speed6 isn't that great, and it may never be. But we should be able to ride on the Speed3's coattails for some mods. Let the guys at Cobb and CP-E figure the computer out first (fuel cut for example) and that will make your goal a lot easier to obtain. Who knows, Mazdaspeed may even come out with something new - although I doubt it highly. As much as I dislike SRT's at least Mopar is willing to back up their tuner rides with a good selection of parts.

Light weight wheels. If you can drop 3-5 lbs. per wheel that will be worth two points....one for speed and one for looks.

Going with a catless down pipe would that make it Impossible to pass emissions tests?

We have to have one here in Atlanta

no cat === no pass

with intake, turbo back exhaust and some sort of ems out there you should hit low 13's low problems. high 12's wouldn't be much but a leap away with a boost controller and race gas.

yeah did that on my old dsm cuz cops are d*cks, but, i dont know if its how they do where you live, but some states i heard have a hose hooked up to your exhaust...fact or fiction, no clue. just thought id throw it out there tho just in case.

You will definitely need Xede or Cobb for tuning since most with CAI, DP and TMIC are hitting fuel cut at some point. I really believe to go into the 12's you are going to have to upgrade to a different turbo. ATP has one out and I think the market will see another one within three months. It would be nice to be the first to get into the 12's with the stock turbo, but I think it is pushing it.

well, it might be possible, after all, an intake and a DP makes you hit 13.5...exhaust 13.4-13.3...+ TMIC upgrade, 13.2-13.0...+ lowering the car for more grip...13.1-13.0...fatter tyres (235s/245s, yes they fit well on 18x8 rx8 wheels which are 1lb lighter than the stock ones as well), thats a 13 flat for sure...and if i try hard...high 12s?

+tuning solution AND a boost controller? who knows...i really think a 12 is possible with the stock turbo.

12's are possible no problem with the stock turbo. it has to be!! theres a lot of juice to pump out of this car with basic mods and tuning.

Remember that 1/4 mile times are relative to altitude density...
Us guys living at higher level tracks have a harder time of setting these cool records.

I dont think lowering springs will be all that much of help considering we have AWD.

5) And some fatter tires. So far 225 is a perfect fit, although a 235 is possible, im not quite sure if it will rub or wrap itself around the rim. We think the RX-8 wheel can fit up to a 245 on the Speed6, not too sure on that. Im currently researching that.

Again with AWD I dont think we need to have huge tires since we arent going to be spinning all four tires at launch. Plus as your tires get bigger they get heavier. Heavy tires + Bigger Rims = slower times.

I have 245/35-19's on my car with PIAA Super Rozza's, no traction issues at all and same or less than the weight of stock setup.

4drhtrd, did you noticed any improvements when launching? or does it feel the same? how bout handling?

the rx8 wheels are actually bigger yet lighter than the ms6 wheels...the bigger tire will probably make up for the weigh you took off, but that would pretty much be if not the same wegiht you had before but with a wider grip.

if you're not using a piggyback, get the atp fuel cut defender so you don't hit fuel cut after all those mods.

(dunno) he wont have those mods! all he has is the GHETTO stock air box mod whit zip ties that Brian showed him how to do LOL(yupnope) karma post pics of that mod!

Hey, don't hate on the open stock airbox with the filter held on by zip-ties. Back when there were absolutely NO intake options for this car I ran that solution for about a month(rofl2) .
