I have been impatiently waiting for my new car and the dealer calls me up and says the my car has been "damaged at the port". I got no information about the actual damage, but after some discussion and communication with the Mazda rep, he said that Mazda is going to fix it, but he doesn't feel comfortable about selling it to me. I really want a blue GT and apparently these are scarce, but after some more communication with the Mazda rep, they have another one coming over from Japan in a few weeks that now has my name on it. It's a good thing I have another car to drive for now.

I was considering trying to negotiate a reduced price or a free extended warranty, but all in all, I am happier getting a new one.

Just to let you know, if you see a blue GT, vin JM1BK34M271676858 for sale, stay away. It has been damaged and "fixed". I don't know what the rules are for disclosure, but at least all of you know now.

Damage during transit happens. Many vehicle ports have repair facilities, even body repair.

Did your dealer say what the damage was? If it's minor, it's not a big deal.

Good of them to tell you. Unless this is just a way for them to sell your car to someone willing to pay more for it.

When I revised my repair trip survey I added a way to indicate damage in transit or at the dealer, because this seems to happen more often I realized.

The dealer said he didn't know what the damage was, but that they were told it would take weeks to fix. He said if it is bad enough to take weeks to fix, he didn't feel right about selling it.

Weeks to fix? Is that with the bodyshop people working in shifts?

Sounds funky to me, but as long as you get a car soon no real harm done.

It's possible that the damage was to something unique to the speed and parts had to come from Japan. It makes me wonder if one of these cars gets into an accident if repair panels are available.

IF one of these gets into an accident? No one's connected with a guardrail or telephone pole yet?

Nice set of cars, by the way. But shouldn't that be a Botus?

They probably tried to take it off the boat, heard a dragging sound, then realized the motor fell through b4 anyone even got to drive it.

Wahoo! My replacement car is in LA, waiting for a ride to the bay area. I should have it in a couple of weeks. And they dropped $500 below MSRP 'cause I am such a nice guy. Sales guy says it's the first one in California below MSRP :bs: .
