Hey guys, haven't posted in years, glad to see the forum is still rocking it. Anyway, if I was to replace my mp3 ecu with the mazdaspeed one will I throw a CEL? Also, if I install the hiboost turbo kit will I throw a CEL?

if you buy the kit, it comes with a haltech...you'd want to go with a p5 ecu...and yes, you'll have a cel iirc.

arg, never gonna ditch this cel at this rate lol
i believe with the msp ecu, you will get a cel due to vtcs, which the mp3 does not have.

You can just buy the solenoid and plug it in.. wait no MP3 wiring harness doesn't have the VTCS plug on it crap...

ROCHESTER?!?!?!?!?! ZOMG WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU!? (get on www.roclife.org, local car enthusiast forum)
I knew the name sounded familiar. Is it a blue mp3 with white wheels? it's the only one I've seen around here. I'll be joining the turbo protege club today or tomorrow :) almost done with the install

OOh! I will swap my P5 ECU for your MP3 ECU. i will include the VTCS solenoid and as much wire as i can reach...
Let me know!

you can only reach like 3 inches of wiring, but it's only like 3 wires. If I knew what the pinout was of the ECU plug I'm guessing those wires go directly into it somewhere. It would be an easy-ish way to get rid of the CEL with P5 ECU on MP3.
my manifold is the jack of all trades.. it has all the solenoids, but has VTCS removed.. I can run any protege ECU (except maybe ones for an automatic.. but eww who would do that haha)

The PCM is just going to look for a voltage change when it switches the solenoid ... all you need is a solenoid, one wire to the PCM, and one wire tapped into 12V Run.
The solenoids on top of the IM are the same style that Mazda has been using for years. There's small differences, but you can snag one of those & a pigtail from a junkyard car and it'll work.
I had to do something like that with my 626 while wiring the DE up ... worked like a charm. It wasn't for VCTS, it was for the charcoal canister; same principle. I just ran the wire though the firewall, and mounted the solenoid to the the MAP bracket.
I should have a MSP PCM pinout at work ... I could host it online next week if you still need it.

i'd be willing to switch ecu's with you, and let you have my solonoid, too
