I found it rather hard. I ended up snapping my fuel and temp needles off tryin to get em on. I dont think theres a way other than slipping them over exsisting gauges

I tried putting the reverse glow guages on, and I broke my fuel needle. They guages will not fit unless you cut them. They were designed incorrectly.

what would be the best way to replace a broken temp needle. i broke mine today installing the gauges and was wondering what would be the easiest and cheapest way of fixing it

:sigh: What i did was i just bought an instrument cluster from the junkyard and transfered the fuel and temp gauges over to my exsisting speedo and tach. that way u still have your true milage from your car and not the milage from the car at the junkyard

all im looking for now is the temp needle/motor. i have finished everything else and that needle being missing is annoying. so where could i get just the needle to put in and not have to buy the whole cluster for $400?

U cannot just replace the needle....needs to be the gauge itself. I purchased a whole cluster from a local junkyard for $75. Check around your local junkyards or use this site http://car-part.com/ as it was how i found the junkyard i bought mine from. If u cannot find one local, maybe one will ship to you. Might be a good ideal to check on ebay as well

hey bvines18 just curious as to where you got your reverse glow gauges from. I recently bought a 2000 Protege LX and have only been able to find the gauges for the DX model... maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places

yea i looked on ebay for a while and only found those DX gauges. then i found a place called pro car parts.
here's the link to the actual product:

oh and be very careful when installing them. i broke off my temp needle and my tach needle is off because i pulled it up. just leave them how they are and be careful sliding the gauge under the needle.

the part that you see is just plastic but what i broke was the very thin metal rod that connects the needle with the, i guess, motor that spins the needle. the rod was about the thickness of a normal paper clip.

Thanks! they look so cool once they are all installed but I don't know if I want to risk breaking off al my needles after reading through all the installation horror stories, plus I live in Canada so kms would be preferable... Maybe once I've had the car for a little longer or if I start to get bored with it I'll take the plunge

Back from the dead .. but I just wanna offer a gauge cluster to anyone that might need it to replace it due to a broken needle. I have a 02 P5 with white faces, and 03 P5 with silver faces. PM if interested.
P.S.: I'll post this in the FS section with proper pics soon too but I figure I could throw it in here too for those who don't keep their eye on the FS forum.

kevINm...if you still are thinking about buying those reverse glow gauges, i went and put in a mazdaspeed gauge cluster so i have the gauges laying in the garage and could sell them to you if you still wanted them.
