View Full Version : Confused - Oil replacement...

I drive my car daily, but usually not far. Less than 10 miles a day, all local. The service manual says to change the oil every 5,000 miles. And as far as I can tell no service is due before this. Yet I keep getting calls from my dealership saying my vehicle is due for service. What gives?

Note: I am not interested in opinions on what the best time to change the oil is. I'm asking for what the factory recommends. Sure, it's probably best to change my oil every 1,000 miles, but it's definitely not necessary.

Because dealership service schedules and services have a lot more to do than profit than car maintenance. Hence dealership service intervals are more frequent and have extra service items.

sadly my dealership was honest and told me to come in every 5,000 miles.

Go by your owners manual, if the oil change interval is now less than 5k they need to update everyones owners manual to reflect that change. Until then go by the owners manual.

Change intervals "research" (http://neptune.spacebears.com/cars/stories/oil-life.html)

Something interesting that I found recently.
