My current exhaust setup for my Regular 2.0L Protege is
Ractive Header (Primary Cat eliminated)
Catless 2.5" midpipe
Stock S-pipe/Resonator
2003 MSP OEM 'racing beat' Axelback
It has an awesome grumble on he low rpm ranges but once about 3 to redline it has this nasty tinny sound. What would I have to change to NOT have a tinny sound, and to have the low end grumble in the: middle and top end?

if you dont have the catalytic converter, then i think that will be the problem.

U have no cats, pretty much just a straight pipe, so its gonna sound like that man.

Yeah I guess so... I thought it would just be loud loud without cats but not a tin can buz near the middle to high rpms. Wouldn't it sound tinny in the low end also?

How does the Resonator and Muffler individually change the note? If I wanted a higher angry bee or just a smoother tone which would I change? Interested in the 'science' of it

buy a high flow catalytic converter and have it welded back in

well just a guess but, it just "muffles" it. The sound has more room and more stuff to bounce off of making it a deeper sound, the deeper you get it the quieter its gonna get, which is the whole point behind our huge stock muffler. I mean its a small engine to begin with and theres not too much of noise to begin with. Straight pipes with a high flow or cut out muffler is gonna make it sound loud and raspy, to get a nice smooth and deep tone you have to find a point between stock and what I mentioned above. I have an axleback and a header and its awesome, and thats as far as I feel that I need to go with my exhaust system.
If you have no cats or resonator and a straight pipe, it'll sound really sh*tty. I removed the tinny sound by welding the resonator back in, but it's got this hollow note I don't really like (like air passing through a steel tin... which is basically what my exhaust is...)... I've a feeling a bigger muffler will help.

I run a downpipe direct to the road in the engine bay. IT's MADDD LOUD.
You need a Cat or it will sound like ass..
