i got a maf code a few months back (p0103 or something like that) and dude at autozone had convinced me it was defective....but what the hell do those people know? i had an ex girlfriend work for autozone for years and never knew a thing about cars....didn't even know what a turbo charger was and she always gave people "advice". she said the customers seemed happier if she would bullshit rather than saying "i dont know".
anyways my maf just had a tad of water in it (lot of flooding that week) and so i just let it sit out in the sun for a few hours and popped it right back in without a problem. people have talked on here about cleaning the maf before. maybe you should give that a try. its risky i hear but....i dunno.

You can get Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner at the auto parts store. Just follow the directions and make sure it is 100% dry before you put it back in. How old is your air filter? Have you cleaned & oiled it lately. If you over oil the filter you will have problems.

the guy I talked to didnt seem to know what he was talking about. I neveer heard a cai would make the mf go bad. I will pull it out tonight and possibly clean it. if that dosnt work I will throw it away and not put it back in. I am going to install my microtech tonight anyways. I'll clean it and try t out before I install the ems. thanks for the help

I'm pretty sure that the MAF cannot be damaged by a CAI...I was posting in another thread about a somewhat similar topic...and how could a metal tube make it go bad as opposed to a plastic tube?! I'm assuming it can't and that guy doesn't know dick.

The oiled-style air filters can get the MAF dirty if they are over oiled. Also, CAIs can suck up water if you drive into a deep puddle or something and ruin the MAF and/or your engine.

I don't have a CAI but I do have an SRI and a big gaping hole in my hood. During my 11+ hour drive during crazy, crazy heavy downpours and snow and slush crap, after 10 hours the CEL came on.. before that it had done a hardcore stutter or two, so I was being easy on it but the cruise control went into boost and I didn't push cancel fast enough.

Thing is, my MAF is relocated, so for it to have gotten wet is QUITE impressive.. through the air filter, through the turbo compressor, into the intercooler, through the intercooler, then up to nearly the throttle body where my MAF is. weeird.

I actually was going to clean my MAF this weekend anyway (already bought the cleaner spray) so until then I'll just stay out of boost... since the gross slush/rain/sleet crap is going to be happening all week anyway.

The problems with MAFs and CAIs is if you look in the stock box, there are little fins usually that direct the air a certain way over the sensor, instead of it just passing right over it, they kinda guide it to the right place. CAIs dont

On my 2000 Celicas MAF, every so often you just have to clean it and reset the code. To clean mine, I just pulled the sensor out and sprayed it down with Dechlorinated brake cleaner (the stuff in the green can usually), and let it dry and it worked like a charm.

Looking at the sensor in a protege, it isnt much different. Give cleaning it a shot and then have autozone/checker clear all codes after doing it. See if it comes back. I doubt it will, not for awhile at least.

Well it's just happening because of all the wet.. if my car can't be turbo in a wet climate, what the hell was the point?

I'll give the MAF cleaner (I wouldn't use brake cleaner on the MAF, it's too fragile/sensitive.. brake cleaner is SERIOUS) that I have a try when I have time this weekend.

Dechlorinated brake cleaner isnt as mean.

Worked on my Toyota, Ive put 30k miles on it since cleaning it with no problems.

clean your air filter, make sure that its nice and dry, take some electrical cleaner and spray the interior of the maf and make sure that nice and dry, and reset your ecu by unhooking the negative battery terminal and pumping your brakes a few times, then rehook up the battery. Turn off your honking alarm. Turn on the car, set your ac to full blast, and the heater and turn on your brights, and let the car idle for 10 minutes. See if you still get the code, if you do get the code still, theres someone selling a maf for $30 on this forum.

I went full throttle today a few times and didn't get the code, and then it started raining again and the code came back (without me even stomping on it and noticing any weirdness like before).

I need a new air filter like whoa. My injen is massively beat up, though I last cleaned/oiled it.. in January?

I'm gonna need to order an AEM dryflow unless the size for AEM intakes on honda civics will fit my intake.. because that I can pick up at the local advance auto parts.

Another good one to look into if they make one for the size is Apexi. Their air filter element is better than a K&N.

I just want one that I don't have to replace every 6 months and especially one that doesn't need to be oiled. I've done K&N, I'm using Injen now.. and I'm not happy with either of them.

Thats why I like my apexi. It doesnt need to be oiled, and if you dont beat the crap out of it, (like it doesnt bang against crap in the engine bay) you can generally blow all the dust and crap off it with an air compressor, effectively cleaning it.

I just dont know if they make one for the CAI/SRI pipe size.
