i think i might have to change a valve spring. do i have to buy new gaskets? if so, which ones? one of my friends said that i'd have an oil leak and lose oil pressure if i don't, can someone please explain why?

You'll need a valve cover gasket and 1 or 2 cam seals. This can be done on the car. May want to do a stem seal, but I'm pretty sure they are not availiable individually. How did you come to the conclusion that you have a broken valve spring?

honestly, no clue, but i talked to a mechanic and he said that it sounds like my vavle springs either need to be replace or a valve needs to be adjusted.

If you have a broken valve spring, you'd also have a miss. Probably a loud clack coming from the valve cover area too. You can replace them in the car, but do it soon if there is a broken spring, or else the valve can come loose and drop into the cylinder. Then you get to replace the engine.....
Have e reputable tech look at it for you and see what the problem is, first though, so you don't just go throwing parts at it.

Would that be covered under warranty?
