Thats entirely insane if its just something on the exaust...how many km's on the car, and did you do a visual inspection of the cats? did any pipes look crushed?

If it is the cat, you would be better off buying a catted midpipe aftermarket. SEARCH for catted and non catted midpipes on the forums , you never know, you might find a used one for under a couple hundred bucks... goodluck buddy.

I'd happily send you my whole exhaust for half what they quoted you. Look under the car and see what is bent or damaged and replace just that. They probably wanted to sell you te whole thing, listen to everyone look in the FS section there is always people selling used parts.

I personally removed the contents of the Cat-Pipe and left them as a little pile on the ground outside the enviromental building of my local government.

i think a more "complete" estimation of your issue is in order...you talk about tha car over heating??? not sure how this is tied into the cat?? you need another opinon and get the est. for th work in writing!

Cars with clogged cats will have a tendency to overheat or run hot, the backpresure builds up and keeps all the heat in the head until the guts of the cat start to get pushed out. I'm not sure if that's the problem that he's having but I think we all are hoping it's just that. I would just remove the catted section and drive normally and if it's still getting hot then he'll know that it's somethiong else and needs to get repaired right away.

Cheapest route is a universal cat put on by a muffler shop for $40.
