Ok, i tried installing the my indiglo gauges and i broke my fuel & tempature needles. I been looking around and theres no way to fix it. So i was looking for a new gauge cluster but I cant seem to find a 99 with a tach. I found this one but im not sure if it'll work. Mileage is my last concern, it just sucks that the only time i can tell i need gas is when the light comes on.

the actual gauges should work ok, but the whole cluster might not work.
see this thread on how to swap out the actual gauges - http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48154
do that, and you won't have to worry about the milage.

So just buy the new gauges, take um apart and just replace um with the new ones? Sounds easier then i thought. I've still got the reverse gauges, should i still try installing them this time and cut them to make them fit?
the 99 cluster worked in my 02, so I would assume that the 02 cluster would work in a 99. only problem was the stupid highbeam dummy light stayed on. I just ended up taking the bulb out.

I swapped my 03 cluster out for a 01-03 lx cluster I got from a junkyard. Everything works including the high beam and there was only ~500 miles difference between the two odometers. I didn't want to risk breaking something taking apart the gauges myself. Be careful with the needles when you do it.

if you get a new guage, screw the indigo lights. I have been where you are right now, and it sucks. If you get a new gauge, consider changing the bulbs while you are at it. This way, it will look better and won't break anything.

Alright so I've been doing a lot of research on this site about switching the gauge faces and how its pretty much impossible unless you have the skills. Now I read somewhere on this site not sure where, but it said that you could swap the gauges out of 01+ and put them into a 99 and you could just swap the circuit boards so you have the correct mileage, is that true at all? I really want to get new gauges because to be honest the 99 has some pretty bland ones. Thanks. BTW I don't mean to steal this thread I just figured posting here would help keep from cluttering the board.

bump. Anyone know if my previous post is true?

you should be good if you only switch the actual gauges, and not the entire assembly

So here is my next question then, what happens to the colors? My gauges are green, and I would be switching to red, do I need to change any of the LED's or is there a colored film on the back of the gauges?

the color comes from a combination of the gauge and the bulbs - i removed the colr from my bulbs, and i got a reddish orange just from the gauges. i would assume the same comes from the green gauges.
