I've got some money and ever since I installed my catless downpipe, I've been getting a lot of hesitation/lack of power/bucking/sounds like firing a gun around 3500-5500 rpm. What is the cheapest and most effective fixture for this problem?

The free ecu flash from the dealer, followed by $250 dollars for a Megasquirt if you know how to assemble circuit boards, next would be the AFC offered by Airflow Logistics (DSM AFC), and last is the Unichip ($600-900). There are a lot of other options as far as standalone management as well. Just a hint the Megasquirt can be set-up as standalone or just piggy back to control fuel. Myself, I will be running megasquirt as a full standalone, controlling fuel, spark, and timing. I did the ECU flash two years ago and never had the hesitation come back. I feel it is worth it if you just want to correct the hesitation, if you plan on making a lot of power down the road then look into engine management preferably standalone so you can make tunes when you want.

Do you have any notes on your megasquirt install.

I have been looking into this myself. Still not exactly sure how difficult it would be to use.

not yet, I have an electrical engineer that is working on mine to make it plug and play while still retaining most of the stock sensors, coil pack, even the gear used to alter timing. Onced everything is finnished up and installed we will be making a big deal about it. The guy is on the forum but I don't throw his name around yet so he doesn't get bombarded with a ton of questions yet. There will be kinks to get by I am sure but it will be really nice to have full standalone that is plug and play and extremely affordable. We already have the ms assembled, have a wire harness to plug into the stock harness. now we are going through the mazda wiring diagrams and systems, shouldn't be too too long, but i am keeping a list of people that have interest and i will be sure to point them in the direction once i am no longer the guinea pig.

havent gotten to play with it yet, but my guy has, he built one for a BMW and he is building one for his race miata, plus there is a healthy atlanta group for information regarding ease of use. It is supposed to be fairly easy to learn how to tune it, plus they have their own forums with tons of information, maps and help.

Just wondering. My car is in need of a good tune here soon. I have had unichip in the past. It was good for what it was, but wasnt gonna cut it for my future plans. Need something more adjustable. I wish I knew more about the megasquirt. I am leaning towards the AFC. But dont like how it cant control timing. I am not gonna make a decesion for an EMS until I am totally sure that what I need.

Megasquirt or AFC?????
I have a GHL TB exhaust,FMIC,mas relocation, intake.
I will have some 440cc injectors, 626 intake manifold, greddy ebc, and a custom tubular exhaust manifold here very soon.

I plan on building the bottom end and having a welded lsd installed in a couple months. Which ems would work the best for now. Probably switch to a full standalone later down the road.

Hmm.... I don't really know much on electrial stuff. Would a Unichip be good for just the mods I have now, a future SMIC or FMIC, MBC, and maybe a 626 intake manifold? This damn whatever that is happening when I floor is sucks ass.

Same here. When i floor it, it feels like i hit fuel cut almost. I have to reall yease into the boost. Sometimes it still does it.

I say megasquirt it has virtually limitless possibilities once you learn what you are doing. If you go that route you will be using a map sensor so no maf to worry about ruining the mix, I tried relocating but it didnt work out for me, so I am really lookmign forward to map. AFC is just a piggyback I believe, so your bet is to go standalone with the mods you plan on putting in. What I am looking forward to is learning how to really tune my car, it's goign to be an adventure with it's highs and lows but in the end I'll know every in and out of my car.
