I would suggest a Bosal. I think there is one for sale that was hardly used in the Market section.

For a catback.. the Racing Beat is hard to beat. It's barely louder than stock, but dynos a 7whp gain with no other mods.

JIC Magic SUS DE Type 1
very nice exhaust system (pricey tho)
comes in either 60mm (2.3") or 76.3mm (3") size piping.

The Racing Beat seems to be a favorite on this forum. Or at least w/the NEPOC folks. I had a Megan, got it crushed when I got rear-ended, and switched to a RB. I'm very happy with it. Do a search and you'll find tons of discussions on exhausts.

Yeah but add the rest of the exhaust in (HKS is just an axleback, correct?) and that'll be one loud car.

Thermal exhaust, quiet inside(0 drone), nice sound outside

I've never actually seen that one, but I've heard good things about it. .. it's the one with an almost stock-looking tip, right?

Do you have it on your Protege5? pics?? :)

I didn't take any picture of the exhaust. It looks stock, but it has a 3" tip.

Here is a picture of the thermal exhaust I found in here, not mine:

So is the Thermal Research really 2.5" or is it like 2.375" (60mm) like all the other claiming to be 2.5"?

^^^ for turbo, you want as big and clear as possible.. what ever muffler you get, make sure its high flow.. same with cat.. with turbo, you want those exhaust gases to escape as fast and as easily as possible..

BJK defenitly go with racing its not to loud its mean when you gun ur engine it gives a slight rumble at idle and it 3 inch tip with the RB sig is sexy just by itself, I was goin to go with a corksport but decided against because I'm not turbo'ed even thiugh I am now headed in that direction its still going to sound great!

I was talking to little beavis and he has a 3 inch exhaust kit mine is 2.375 so I'm sure that's more then enough. You want something that's loud but also doesn't drone while cruisng at high speeds so if your looking for something like that. RB is surely the way to go check out NSNmotorsports.com they are awesome!

yeah, but mark also has an automatic and thus a def power limit. you know damn well he isnt getting all the power he could if he had 3in

I guess my totally non-lofty goals won't be an issue with the Racing Beat then :P

Stock works rather well.

Stock works rather well.

I agree, stock exhaust doesn't drone and works fine. You want an impressive sound? add an SRI to get a sweet intake note when you open her up. All motor baby!

Want a loud exhaust? Buy a civic and rice it up like everyone else.

i agree i had a megan racing exhaust and it was great but i got sick of it. it wa sloud and blah, granted i was running obx header to mam mid pipe to megan racing cat back and dat bitch was loud! now i just have the obx header on and its nice, only noises are comming from the engine so it sounds evil all 90 whp of it!

The racing beat is only slightly smaller .1" than the corksport exhaust. I run the corksport and I put out 264 whp / 264 ft*lbs at 12 psi. . .I would argue that the racing beat is sufficient size for turbo-ing. I've also had a 3", I don't know that there was any significant gain other than volume (size and noise).

I think the racing beat bolts up nicely, looks good, and works (as others have already said).

technically you want the highest velocity exhaust gasses possible, which doesn't always mean larger size... but then with a turbo.. hmm

Salmon_Rob
12-12-2006, 02:49 PM
with a turbo the bigger the better. theoretically the most efficent exhaust for a turbo is no exhaust. thats why import drag cars have 1ft long 4in exhaust sticking out the front bumper

I'm running the same setup now. Just the OBX header and the stock exhaust. My 1hour 35 minute commute sucked with the injen and HKS Hiper. Too loud. Didn't notice much of a decrease in power either.
