Does anyone know where the speedometer sensor is in the CX-7 transmission?

Also on top of that, how do you hard erase a CEL? In hondaland we could just unplug the ECU or battery and wait for the capacitors to run out of juice holding the CEL in memory... Now I assume it's in a non-volatile type memory....

Just disconnect the battery for 10 or so, same as a Honda. (well, the best way is just to pull the fuse for the ECU [so that you don't lose radio settings and such], but I didn't feel like looking for the correct fuse)

I had to do this the first day I owned my CX-7... CEL from the dealer, they said they couldn't clear it for a week so I just did it myself.

Sounds like you want to get rid of the speed limiter.(shocked)

Well that's truly disappointing. Any word on the speedo plug on the tranny?

117.

And you came by this info how? I saw 115 (as measured by my Garmin GPS) this weekend before I let off, and it wasn't anywhere near maxed out. The Euro mags report a top end of about 130.

Depending on traffic, I might wind it up tomorrow just to see...

subbing because the speed sensor went bad on my tranny and i have a CEL. so the speed sensor takes away the speed limiter?

Car and Driver says the top speed is limited to 117 by a governor. Now I have to try it.

Wound it up on the way home--pulled really strong right up to the point where the GPS went from 116 MPH to 117, and the little electronic nanny that Mazda installed eased back on the throttle, just as if I had lifted (I didn't). Wasn't an abrupt, heart-stopping loss of power (like the Miata's over-rev fuel shutoff), but just a smooth back-down. A couple of seconds after it started, I lifted, and since I was coming up on traffic, I didn't check to see when the nanny returned control.

Man, that's a real (pissed). Honda and Toyota don't have this on the CR-V, RDX, or RAV-4, and for a company that's proud of its sporting image, for Mazda to saddle us with it is inexcusable. Had I known about this before I purchased it, I wouldn't have.

Oh, well...guess I'll have to wait until the aftermarket puts out a chipset, or maybe do a brain transplant from a 6.

I'm kinda still looking for the plug in the tranny... slightly time critical.

i don't mean any offense, but when does one need a CX7 to go faster than 115 miles an hour?

never. not the reason I need the information.

I don't take any offense, but who needs a Porsche that will hit 200? Not the point. I bought a vehicle that's marketed as being performance-oriented, and I expect it to perform. Why limit it to 117? Why not, oh, 70?

My ten-year-old almost-stock (intake and exhaust mods) Miata will hit an honest 125 on level ground (takes forever, but it will get there). I expected much better from this vehicle.

OTOH, some people here actually thought it would get 24 mpg. So much for advertising and expectations. (jerkit)

nobody needs to go over 115 BUT it's nice 2 know IF u wanted to, u could, i don't see myself ever pushing past 100. even that is nuts, my days of flying at 135-140 on a bike and over 120 in a talon tsi are OVER. 80-90 tops is good enough for me now...
but if i'm getting chased by FBI, i'll have to engage the nitrous, which detonates the governor, and engage my oil slicks and smoke screens i just had installed, also an automatic license plate flipper, flips plates so fast u can't read it...

Or you could buy the service manual mentioned in the owner's manual...

Wouldn't have been in time... I've already made the 1200 mile trip from San Diego to Montana.
