View Full Version : carbon hood question?

Ok so I have a Vis carbon hood. I have had it for about 2.5 years and it is faded to shit. started cracking along the edges a lil and across the middle of the hood. I am going to be buying a new one soon so I am thinking of these three.
1 Dg motorsports oem carbon hood
2 xcelerated concepts ( I think thats the name??) oem
or the Gemini hood. oem
If anyone has heard anything about any of these hoods I would appraciate the feed back so I can make a better judgement etc. I just don't want the hood to fade like this or does it not matter? Will carbon just fade no matter what? Its not yellow the clear coat looks all scuffed and very dull.
Again thanks for any info you guys can give I appreciate it.

get a fiber images...and clearcoat it...but you'll need to clearcoat any CF hood, iirc.

I have only heard great things about XC (xcelerated concepts). I have one on order right now but it will be a little bit before I get it.

You guys have the best deal out of the three so thats a definate plus for me. How is the fitment and is the underside of the hood just black or is the skeleton overlayed as well. Dg says theirs are overlayed underneath as well. This is steering me towards them a bit. Also how are the seibon hoods you have for sale?
Thanks for any info you can provide

I don't think you can get a Gemini Composites hood anymore, unless you purchase it from somebody on the forums that already owns one. They're hard to come by.
I'd definitely go with CrazyCaker's hood. His hoods weren't really 'circulating' when I bought my reverse-cowl -- but if anything happened to my current CF hood (God forbid!), he's who I'd buy the replacement from. Excellent quality and fitment from what I've seen and read.

i have a dual vented xcelerated concepts hood and the fitment is oem quality for sure.. he is a great guy to deal with and the products are simply amazing.. i bought my hood and trunk from him and he helped on the install and everything (since i live near him). i have gotten compliments on it by lots of people including other fg and cf laying companies on how well the cf is layed. i have seen lots of cf products from dg and others (as i have alot of cf in and outside of my car) and i am most impressed with the xcelerated concepts products...
xcelerated concepts ftw!!!!

i have the xcelerated concepts dual vent hood and helped install my friends xcelerated concepts trunk (i have jsp).... i would give them a better than average grade for sure. although the first hood i had from XC wasn't the best quality at all, this one is much better. just my $.02

thanks for all the input I am sold on the XC oem hood and will be purchasing as soon as my income tax comes in. 645 shipped is an awesome deal and you guys are all saying the carbon finish is better than average so that makes me feel confidant in purchasing their product.
thanks again

The Gemini Composites site is still up, and it seams that you can still order the reverse cowl hood for around 900 shiped.

Hmmm....I had a OEM VIS hood for a Civic coupe for over a year, never faded or spider-webbed on me. I would buy another VIS hood.....

That all depends on what brand you go with because there are brands available that do not do this ;)

what about just the sides?
Kansei

just the sides looks nice too. that's what I was going to do too but decided to supress the ricer inside and just go all out w/ the paint.

is the reduced weight really worth painting the whole hood?
Kansei
02-05-2007, 11:21 PM
no, not at all. getting an oem-style CF hood and painting the whole thing would only give you the bling factor of opening the hood and showing people the CF underside.. but I don't even know if most CF hoods are 100% CF, I know my fiber images is.
I definitely wouldn't have painted the whole thing if it was oem-style.. but then again I would never have bought a CF hood if it was OEM style :P

no, of course not. spend 1k on a hood, another 800 on paint, all just to have the oem mitsu evo vent on a protege.. totally not worth it. I don't really know why I did it in hindsight. Yeah it looks hella nice but.. it's so subtle for so much money, and with no performance gain in speed or handling? yeah a big money pit :P

thanks, its the vis evo hood. when i first got it everyone said that they fade quickly due to the clear-coat. i had my buddy go over it twice so now there is 3 on it. i love the way it looks and fits. no complaints here(headbang)
