does water get in that hood vent? or snow?

welcome to the forums!
from what i kno there is something underneath the vent on the evo hood to block water from coming in.

i like this blue, that's why i bought it :) better than blue by you, the pastel type blue they came in for the 03-04 models. i see red and white sometimes, a silver every once in a while but that's about it. i like that i don't see my car all of the time though.
water does get in the vent but not when moving really. snow does too but it melts pretty quick. there is something under the vent itself but it doesn't help stop water from getting in. right under that is the exhaust manifold so the water just evaporates real quick. the thing under there looks like this but made out of plastic. i'd say it slows down the water from getting in but doesn't prevent it really

it's actually not bad compared to, say, a porsche, but for a japanese car it's on the expensive side. it's a combination of things really. stock tires are $263 each according to tire rack and last ~15,000 miles. if you want to drive it in anything below 40 degrees you need winter tires. brakes last slightly longer but are another quick wear item. diff fluids aren't terrible again but you're supposed to use the mitsu stuff which isn't super cheap. oil has to be synthetic. you have to do maintenance on schedule or it'll come back to bite you. the clutch will last 50k miles with normal driving. plus all of this stuff has to be done more frequently if you drive it hard. it's just a lot of small, not cheap but not terribly expensive things that need to be done frequently. if you're used to driving a modified car it's not too much different as most of the stuff you have to do is stuff you would have done anyways, as you'll put better than stock brakes, tires, use synth oil, etc... in the year and a few months i've owned it though it hasn't been crazy expensive. it's certainly no civic though, but driven as a daily driver it's not too bad
another part of the expensive to own is insurance, which isn't cheap. then there's also modding, which is where people fall into a huge trap. it's so easy to spend a lot of money on it because of the gains you get. in stock form up near red line the car starts to die off. a simple reflash and exhaust (where i am now) makes such a huge difference, it just makes you want to do more. then when you do cams, same thing. the hp/dollar ratio is good when you start modding, which makes it hard to stop for some people. but then you increase your maintenance schedule normally as staying out of the power is hard, and it all ends in a vicious cycle :) i made myself a 5 year plan for my car to help regulate myself and not fall into the trap :)

i was bored at work one day :) at home i have it in a spreadsheet with another column that records what i actually spent, and it has what i did in 2005/2006 (not much). it gives me things to shoot for, helps me control my spending, and i think is very attainable assuming things don't go wrong (like the clutch deciding it doesn't like the flywheel anymore)

yeah i have a 94 3000gt, but it seems that with age everything breaks and recently since college has started and i got a new job that requires me to make mulitple trips from home to school and back then to home, my car is getting alot more use out of it than usual.
i've been looking for a car that is reliable and is still fun to drive. i've heard good and bad things about mazda, but i don't really like hondas or toyotas. they're not too exciting. i would love to keep buying mitsubishis but im afraid of them breaking like how mine can. i guess it's the same with every car but i have assosiated breaking with mitsubishis.

Its all good! My best friend took delivery of a 07 True Red Mazdaspeed3 GT. Its awesome! She traded in a Sentra SE-R Spec V for it. She has already tinted the windows and has afew other mods in mind. She has a 3 y/o son who gets to sit in a Recaro toddler seat. I got him the other day to yell out the window at two teenagers in a Spec V "Zoom Zoom" It was really funny.

I had a 2002 Montero sport, traded it in on my MS6. The truck actually got used, used it a few time to tow my datsun (once from Wyoming to Missouri) and towed around a 280zx. but it was getting the time for things to start getting replaced and it was going to be expensive.

i know it's going to be a different opinion for everyone, but do you think it's worth it to keep pouring money into my 3000 if it's just going to keep getting older and more things are going to break? it's been an issue for a couple months for me, but no one really gives me a real answer.

Thats a good question. Is the 3000 paidoff?
wishingfora ms3
12-09-2006, 12:56 PM
yeah it's been paid off for a few months now. really i paid it off completely when i bought it but then it started breaking so i didnt have the cash to do it. got a loan from my parents and i finally paid them off. now more things broke and guess what, im broke so i couldnt do it myself. also the law caught me and now im going to court on the 18th. im going to try and plee down the charges.
things just aren't going my way lately. :( i want to get something thats so slow i wont get a ticket again. haha. nah but i need to find something thats a little more practicla i think. my car sticks out like a sore thumb. and cops are just dying to pull me over. i need to creep everywherei go and can never have any fun with out being worried about being pulled over.
my sister has a bug and those things dont look fast at all. they're not bad but a cop seeing a girl driving a bug is not going to think about pulling her over, you see where im getting?

jred321
12-09-2006, 06:37 PM
i want to get something thats so slow i wont get a ticket again.
in that case you should keep your car :p
financially, a new car is never a good idea. if you want something fun and more subtle the ms3 is a good option, so is the MSP (the msp will still be as fast as a 3000gt sl but won't feel like a boat when you drive it). i'd say if you can afford it without a problem go MS3, but if you question whether you can afford it (including insurance, maintenance, etc...) then the MSP is a great option. make sure you get a black 2003 though
wishingfora ms3
12-09-2006, 11:51 PM
i have owned the car for more than two years now and this is the first time ive been pulled over. i love the mazdas design of the msp and the p5 as well as the new 3 and ms3. i figured the cops wouldnt look as closely at a 3 or ms3.
wishingfora ms3
12-09-2006, 11:54 PM
why do you say a black 2003. is there something wrong, mechanically with the other years or colors? just curious, i dont know anything about these cars except for some info on the ms3.
jred321
12-10-2006, 12:59 AM
well if you're going for not drawing attention to yourself, all 2003.5 MSPs are out because of their giant wing. that leaves the 2003 which comes in orange and black. orange stands out a lot, so you're left with black. mechanically they're all the same. the MSP was only out for 1 year, and if you want a car that still has some oomph, the other proteges are out. the normal 3 would be an ok option though
wishingfora ms3
12-10-2006, 01:48 AM
yeah i think the 3 looks nice. i like how its a hatch too. i thinki wanna get a new car though. im always worried about how well the previous owner took care of their car or if they even bothered to break it in correctly. i took that chance buying my car and look whats going on right now.

My Eclipse was a GS, though fully loaded with the two tone black/gray leather interior, moonroof, Infiniti CD/Cass. audio system, Homelink, remote entry, etc. Basically it had every option of a GST, minus the turbo. The RS had this weak attatched spoiler that wasnt really a spoiler more like nascar downforcer, minus the effectiveness.

is it an SE? and evos don't like to be garaged, they like to be set free :)
Agreed, mine just sitting for a few days while i drive the p5/VW, hates me. I usally have to pull the plugs and clean them. and hold full throttle till it starts. (I have a cutsom tune and it dumps too much fuel in (full throttle cuts fuel)) the evo is a good DD just learn to stay out of boost.
and there are soooooo many times im sitting at a light next to cocky ______ (i.e. mustang, civic, F-body) that I wish I was in the evo.

Many are going to the evo's...haha
I'm in the band wagon, no pics but had my TB 9 SE for about 5 months.
So easy to mod(which I already have(naughty)) and so easy to blow your savings...(freak).
The TB on the pic above look like MR SE, very nice. Black is sooooo sexy.
The car is just unbelieveable-disgustingly fast.(five-0)

I had a 95 Eclipse GS with really bad crankwalk, and eventually blew the motor in that. Then got a 98 Eclipse GST that was built to the heavens. Forged motor, huge turbo, caged, you name it, it had it. Fastest car Ive ever owned, besides the speed3. Parting out the GST as we speak.

Ummm.. Forged motor with a huge turbo and your speed 3 is faster? Something was definately wrong with it then.. A bolt on gst with a 16g is faster than a stock MS3..

i think he ment it was just a fast car that he owned, as well as the MS3 being fast as well. i don't think he ment the MS3 was faster....

Any motor can crankwalk..
truth. supras sometimes suffer from it. the 4G63 just made it famous

doubt it.. 4g63 is king of crankwalk, its to the point that almost noone will build a 7bolt motor out of the newer eclipses... only replace with a 6bolt which is MUCH less likely to have crankwalk.

Actually, the only reason you hear more about 7 bolts is because more dsm owners are on the internet compared to supra owners..
And for the people who wont build 7 bolts, they're just pussies.. There are people out there who build 7 bolts still.. Its mainly just the 95-97 ones that walk.. 92-94 and 98-99 didnt have as bad of a problem.. Not sure what chrysler did different between those years though..

Wow... revive an old thread...
I had a Tredia Turbo - 1984 - 4 door sedan ( gee, that was a long time ago ) that I bought on an impulse... black with silver wheels. Great car - for its time. Put 120,000 miles on that car before something in the tranny broke, and it was never the same after that...
