I'm going to be keeping track of my MPG using the following spreadsheet. If anyone else wants to use it, feel free. The columns highlighted in grey are automatically calculated.

I'll update my own as time goes by.

I got about 14 mpg my first tank of gas. I expect to do better as I put more mileage on it and I break her in.

Spreadsheet last updated 02-18-07

thanks, I'll be using it too as soon as I get my CX-7

Hopefully next weekend :D :D :D

I use similar, I have graphs tracking price of gas and average mpg, but I didn't include them. They are simple XY graphs...

I have my mpg on my signature and I'll keep it up to date for awhile and see how things pan out. Great post though!

Just updated my spreadsheet -- this last tank of gas I got about 14mpg, mostly city driving. Still in the break-in period (haven't even crossed 500 miles yet).

FYI my gas mileage is on par with yours and I noticed I squeezed a couple more mpg (up to around 16 now) from keeping my rpms low and rarely engaging the turbo.

I'll be watching it with driving both ways... I know the first tank of gas I tried to go each on the RPMs and engaging the turbo... 2nd tank not so much... and this tank I'm being even less careful. Ultimately, I have to keep telling myself not to get too nitpicky about it... I knew I was buying a car that wasn't great on fuel efficiency. I do expect it to do better as I break it in more.

wow, not flaming or anything but.... I cant say that I watch my gas THAT close. I judge everytime I fillup with my trip... but thats just too much work.

and yes, Im using premium on a FI car... so I see same/worse gas mileage than you do...

Either I baby my car, or I got one of the good ones.

I got 21.08 and 22.67 on my first two tanks, respectively. Couldn't be happier! (first)

Just updated.

It doesn't take any work... just a matter of putting numbers in.

Newly updated spread sheet. I'm up over 1,300 miles now on the odometer and I got 18.18 mpg this time around.

just a bump. I thought I had replied yesterday.

specific tanks don't matter so much as the overall number. you can top it off a little more one time and get another .5 gallons in there. that makes a difference. over time those ups and downs tend to flatten out and you will have a more accurate idea.

i've plotted gas mileage over date and throw in a trendline to see how much, if any, it is trending up and down.

i do it to both gas mileage over time and gas prices over time too (i'm a big nerd in my spare time away from the cockpit)

LOL, big nerd here too ;)
I know they can top-off different. I do have a rule of going only to where the pump automatically goes off. I don't try to get more in or round off the number. I figure the slight difference isn't going to be huge. I'm seeing a mostly upward trend right now which is what I expected as the vehicle gets broken in. If over the long haul I end up averaging around 20 mpg, I'll be happy.

Updated today. Recent tank was 17.23 MPG. Down a bit from the last, but not much. I was hoping for a little better, but still okay.

Updated. Sadly, this time around it was only about 15 mpg (14.79 to be exact). That's with ALL around-town driving. 1,843 miles on the odometer.

Thanks CXRabbit. I'm using your spreadsheet. I put it on my Treo smartphone, so I have the spreadsheet and fill it in before I leave the gas station. (talk about a nerd...) Three fill ups so far - all above 18mpg.

after two tankfuls of mostly around-town driving (w/ few highway trips mixed in) we're averaging in the mid 16s. a little over 500 miles on her now.

Jesus that is some piss poor mileage...maybe I won't talk my mom into one, she has been looking at RX350's but I figured the CX-7 rocked for atleast 10,000 less

Looking at the specs for the RX350, i suspect that you will have some similar MPG as the CX 7, if you can afford the extra $ I probably would have looked at Lexus RX 400h instead...

My parents don't have much money. But they know where to spend it when they do have any. My dad has 2 Ducati's...that is his passion.
My mom loves her 2000 Lexus RX300...personally...it sucks the big one. Handles like crap, brakes like crap, mushy brakes, suspension and handling. Power is boring.
Well it has 90,000 miles on it now, so they are looking at something else.
She was at the Mazda dealer the other day, so I got excited saying "awesome you looking at a new CX-7?" No, she was looking at a 2004 RX350 for $29,000! I said "PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD you can get a BRAND NEW 2007 CX-7 GT with Nav and Bose for $30,000"!

My dad loves the CX-7, but my mom isn't in love with it's looks...I just got to get her to test drive it...

You don't have to get me into the Mazda fold, I have had the Mazda Protege MP3, one of the first Mazda3S' to hit California back in late 2003, and one of the first Mazdaspeed3's in CA, and have got my friends into Mazdaspeed Proteges, Mazda Tributes (2 of them), and all of them were new, which means MAZDA OWES ME BABY!!!
Well they really don't but a Die Cast would be nice...

Seems like you need to get your mom into a CX 7 for a test drive... :)

Well, I filled up today (and updated the spreadsheet) and my gas mileage was the worst it's ever been. Only 13.12 MPG. It doesn't upset me too much as I haven't filled up for 9 days and it was truly all around-town short-trip driving (absolutely the worst kind too). This was the first time I've really driven the car the way it most commonly gets driven during the winter, and it's also the first time it's been real cold for a while (so I've been warming up longer and keeping the car running longer at stops).

I will say I'm surprised it was THIS bad but I'll say I'm glad I don't put a lot of mileage on the car. During the summertime I do a lot more highway commuting (taking my daughter back and forth to camp) so I'll just keep my fingers crossed the numbers will be better!

Update today - six days from last fill-up. I did worse this time around, clocking in at 13.03 MPG with nearly 100% around-town driving.

2,247 miles on the car.

CXRabbit, I know how you feel with the poor MPG you've been experiencing. I've been using your spreadsheet (thanks) and I've been averaging 18mpg. My lowest number was 15mpg and highest was 19mpg. I've been using A/C Heat on/off since it's been 10-20 degrees here in IL. I can't wait for Spring and Summer so I can gauge higher MPG that I can attain without using A/C. Goodluck.

Honestly Shaz, I haven't found there to be much difference between using the auto climate control and not using it (and sticking with settings where I KNOW the AC is off). Biggest difference I see is when I'm doing mostly around-town driving... that's when mileage just plummets.

Latest tank: 15.8 MPG with about 60% stop-in-go driving, 40% highway.

updated: 15.06 MPG on 2/10/07

Next tank will be 100% reflective of the IMRC Fix and PCM update I had on 2/9/07

CxRabbit I opened your sheet in excel 2k7 it shows me that there is an error with your sheet for values =(C17/B17) This error occurs when a number is divided by zero (0).

Using the cell reference to a blank cell or to a cell that contains zero as a divisor

Note If the operand (operand: Items on either side of an operator in a formula. In Excel, operands can be values, cell references, names, labels, and functions.) is a cell that is blank, Microsoft Office Excel interprets the blank as zero.

Change the cell reference to another cell.
Enter a value other than zero in the cell used as a divisor.
Enter the value #N/A into the cell referenced as the divisor, which changes the result of the formula to #N/A from #DIV/0! to denote that the divisor value is not available.
Prevent the error value from displaying by using the IF worksheet function. For example, if the formula that creates the error is =A5/B5, use =IF(B5=0,"",A5/B5) instead. The two quotation marks represent an empty text string.

Anyway, the sheet was updated today... I filled the tank yesterday. 13.73 MPG is the latest.

LOL its what excel says to me to correct it maybe someone else here knows how but I was thinking with both your sheet and someone elses in this section I dont see anything associated with the odometer reading

Im just curious since I just seen all these post about getting the dealer to flash the ecu etc.. I havent noticed any probs accelerating but i am now curious about MPG I want whats others get 18mpg-22mpg
