Well after a great time with the Protege its time to move on.

I might of tossed some screws and spun a rod bearing on the Protege, Im not sure yet, Im bringing her to stock, then the Dealer for a check up, once thats done, shes for sale. Im not sure of the details of that, but will square it out over the next few weeks.

Im a little pissed about it, because while I do drive her hard, Ive kept her oiled nicely with lucas stabalizer and If the rod bearing is spun, thats just a defective engine from Mazda.

The New Ride

Well it was fun busting up unsuspecting victems at the track with the Protege, the New ride is a next level up.

GTI VR6

Yup, I went to a V6 in a tiny ass ride.

Its actually a 91 GTI with 104K on the Body, and a 98 VR6 with 90K

Its pretty loaded, as is she runs 14.3 in the 1/4 mile (shocked)

Intake, Full 2" exhaust line, Neuspeed Chip + Plug wires + strut bar (soon to have a header + UDP installed)

Dropped, with blisten shocks & coil over springs GTI fender kit, RS front bumper, New Paint from 3 years. Enkei 16" rims (They fit Perfect) Tinted windows, Recaro seats (front & rear) Shaved moldings + side blinkers, with New school side blinkers added.

Ill have pics up, tomorow.

Ill be selling my Protege Parts shortly, including a J-spec mazdaspeed intake cam (H9) thats never been installed with gasket and all bolt slots. Header, Injen CAI, NOLOGY wires, and maybe the guage cluster, Ill post up a thread when I start that. (I am NOT selling ANYTHING in this thread)

Ill still be arround to chat about the Mazdas, But Ill be riding my GTI VR6

Yeah, I just picked her up last night, Im putting the money that was going into forging & turboing the Protege (Still saving it, now that I bought the GTI its down a bit ;) Into maybe a kit for her down thhe line, still undecided.

MANY thatnks on thhe tuning info, I would actualy like to get some info on that Chip to upgrade my Neuspeed Chip (but she does run 14.3 on street tires un-prepped as is) Also ill be looking for some V-Dub forums to grab some info.

I want to change thhe belts so I figure grabbing a UDP would be a good idea at this time, but Ill need to know the new size of belts Ill need after changing the pulley size (All tips and info are welcome, Im new in the V-Dub world

As she is she pulls like a motherfucker, much harder, & longer in each gear, the Stage 2 clutch has a gret feel to it (Still got to get used to it)

here are some pics, ill post up engine pics tomorow

i'll let him know he has a satisfied customer :) it's weird cause he doesn't even know much about cars and drives an explorer. i think he's more in charge of their systems than products

Congrats...that thing is really clean for a 91. I wouldn't change a thing appearance wise. Keep your cash for performance upgrades....it's a sweet looking sleeper!

P.s. lol!Being from Quebec myself, I was honestly expecting a beat up body in lime green with stickers all over it but this car is really really nice!

Megga thanks for all the links and info (Now Ive got some learning to do :)

Thanks on the Props for a clean looker, The Body has 103000 (Kilometers) on it, & has never seen winter, the motor came out of a 98 and has 91000 (Kilometers)

Ive already removed the rear window sticker & neuspeed licence plate frame, so she is completly cleen.

Im going to check out that info on the Drive belt and UDP, I think thats gonna be the first thing I do.

Megga thanks for this tid bit, I love that they include the belts and or adjuter, so you got all you need.

Thats going to go in next week :) if not the one after for sure (just paid for new plates for her + everything else)

The stage 2 clutch is awsome also, it just grabs and goes no fucking arround :)

Im going to keep the neuspeed chip in her for now, I might change her to the GIAC down the line (Most definatly when I turbo her) I hear there is a good diff in performance, but at the same time a tad agressive, some of had then dialed back to keep from pinging (from what Ive read)

the neuspeed chip gives a good chunk of HP and takes away the pesky rev limiter and speed govenor, I also like that its got a set up for partial throttle and one for full throttle. Full throttle is awsome, huge leaps up from the Protege.

I think with new belts + UDP & A header, all fluid changed, Ill be allright for now ;)

Naw, I might to a farwell vid, but the VR6 will get prime focus, and should be good for some sick videos (glare)

Yeah shes dropped like a mofo, shes got blisten shocks and Neuspeed coil overs, hasnt rubbed yet (however the guy used to have 17s on her and they had issues) the 205/45/16 is great rubber and everything sits mean.

Thanks, Yeah shes definatly has "V-Dub" apeal.

I hate to be a persone to throw badges on there ride, I hate the "rice" but im going to toss on a GTI badge from the 06 modle instead of the red MKII GTI badge, and add in a VR6 badge under it.

The VR6 sound is grrrrreat.

lol Its shaved now, and IDK, it kinda bugs me. Im all my own and Im putting them on, & Might opt for the "MK" off a MKIII badge Scraping the III & using the 2 german flags Badge (blue and black) for the Left side, To get MK 2. :)

Im crazy like that

MK2 ________GTI
____________VR6

If you could picture it like this without the lines.

need to take off that lower front bumper. It's to rounded and doesn't go with the overall boxy style of the car. that's just me w/e. And how is this an upgrade? Faster yes, but 91 A2 GTI is not nicer then a protege. It's like me saying my 240 is nicer then my msp.

I think the round headlights flow with the roundness of the front bumper, the only changes Im going to do to it is paint the mesh black. But hey, thats me, I like it & its my car, so I geuss thhe most important persone & the only one who counts made his vote (& only I hold the power of veto) I geuss that ends that.

Ohh and a emblumless grill will be put on ;)

As far as upgrade from the Proteger, well...... This may be a 91, But Its definatly an upgrade from the Protege.

The protege has 65k (kilometers) on her & has gone throughh 3 winters. The GTI has 100k (klm) on the body, 90k on the Engine & had no clue what winter is (untill this year he he he)

Lets compare

Well the Protege is perky car with decent cornering and a okay interier. Nice styling (sligly drab in stock form, but good options availible) Nice feel with the mods I had on her, but the crap gearing doesnt even let that fully lose.

The GTI I have is everything my Protege is and more.

Interier

The protege had a very nice looking interier, sporty yet not overdone. However its a rattling mess, everytime I find and cure a squeek or rattle 2 more stirr up. Over all it was nice but NOTHING really impressive, all in all, it was better then the average and much nicwer then a Neon, but beyond that........

The GTI, also has a nice interier (B;ack with a Cool GTI red stripe touring the cabin), mine has a Alpine system & Recaro seats (front and rear) Silver guages. Yeah its a little boxy compared to the Protege, but all in all just as nice, and more important, rattle free (and the GTI is soooo much older WTF) I also have a sun roof on the GTI ;)

Handling/cornering

Ill have to say the Protege impressed me Very much in this department, in stock form the handling was excelent, and with a few mods better and better. Awsome unibody chassy design.

However

The GTI also has a great chassis, nothing to squak at in stock form. However My GTI has Blisten shocks, Neuspeed adjustable coil overs, & all bushings are polyurithane with a front strut bar.

My GTI will lose the Protege in the twisties so fast it wouldnt be funny

Not only that but the Ride feel in the GTI is simply better. the ride is Stiffer a tad for initial impacts but has more cussion (progressive) Where the Protege is very jerky all the time no embetween.

Power

Um lets not even go there, the stock MSP doesnt even have what it takes to read my plate, How in Hell could a LX come close? (In case its hard to figure out, being online and in type, Thats a retorical question ;)

Outside apearence

This is definatly opinion based, I personally love the look of the Protege & feel the BC2 kit is absolutly killer on it. Still do, & that wont change.

However

I also Love the look of the MK2 GTI's and have for so long. The styling is Classic and with the custome work/ styling already done to my car, she simply looks hot.

At first I was a little off on the feeling of a pre milinium ride, feeling it might feel to "old" Syling wise, but Thats squashed when looking at My MK2 GTI VR6 in persone & or taking her for a ride.

But hey, This is only My opinion (ughdance)

Why add any badges? Especially the VR6? Keep it a sleeper.

Rac3rX
12-09-2006, 07:24 PM
I kinda feel the arse is a little bland and it would add enough for my taste

besides, people in the know will know, (as if they couldnt tell from the sound comming from the 2" catless exhaust line to Sebring dual tip) & the ignorent will remain ignorent (even after getting blown away, even after being told "VR6", so its all good. Im not here to fool/impress or any of that, just meet my own needs & taste.

Eithor was she isnt a sleeper once the key is in the "On" position Or even just like that. Shes just not Riced out, where as any Civic with the amount of shit I got in her would have maybe 2" inches of paint visible behind the stickers telling everybody every damn thing in the car, like its a Honduh Catalogue & not a car.
