ok so yesterday when i got off work i start my car up n let her warm up a bit, and all of the sudden the oil light starts flickerin and than it goes away, i was like ummm ok that cant be good, but i could'nt do anythin till i get home, and on my way home the oil light flickered few more times, when i got home i let her cool down and than i checked the engine oil level and WHOAA it was dry, i was like WTF i did the oil change around 2000 miles ago and i used Mobil 1 15w-50 (usually i use 10w-30) me and my old man checked for any leaks and nothin, i checked the coolant just in case to make sure it wasn't mixing n nothin, i never noticed any leaks b4 n i park in the garage so if it was leaking i would have known, we were like "were did the oil go?" LOLZ... has this happened to any of u? i dont kno what to think of it, any help/input is much appriciated. thx

Yup, I only have 38K on my MSP and Im currently adding 1qrt of oil every 1000 miles. My car went from not burning any oil at all to mixing it with coolant and buring it in about a 2 month period. Im not sure wats up with mine. Hope you figure it out.

its done it for a long while now...had things checked out...nothing found. i am JUST not starting to notice one of the seals seeping... but its been doing it long before then.
also i just noticed today while i was working on something (and its cold so i could see hte smoke out of the exhaust) it is like puff puff puff puff instead of a constant force comming out.... wtf does that mean? (if you even understand what i am saying.)

Why were you using 15W50 to begin with?

If its cold and it hasn't been running long it could jsut be condensation that you see. However if its burning oil/loosing oil and you can't see where itat. I'd just go get a compression test done just for shits and giggles and see if you are within specs.

That shit happened to me twice, the second time I was surprised, because I was checking it like every 500k, There one minut gone the next. Warm engine, and the bitch was BONE DRY, I had to add 2 quarts both times. WTF Shouldnt the light come on if the oil is close to or past the halfway mark? Why the fuck does it wait until there is like 25% left in the damn engine? Thats a fucking DEFECT to me.
I said fuck it, this FS is really pissing me off, to hell with it.
My best geuss is it burns up while the 4th piston gets starved of oil in corners (I beleve its hard rights that do it, it may be hard lefts, or both)
Best solution if keeping the motor would be to get the AWR oil pan, or pressure somebody to make a baffled or dry sump options.
I would toss in a V6 out of a 626
This is actually one of the main reasons I gave up on the Protege, & moved on to a VR6. I actually looked for a 1st gen Protege with a V6 swapped into it, but the GTI VR6 was too nice to pass up.

Yup its oil starvation 4th piston, that kills rod bearings, burns the piston rings (That may be a culprit here aswell, but I never saw oil in my coolant) a bunch have had it happen and have been lucky enough to be inside the warrenty and get it fixed up while other havnt been so lucky even when inside the warenty, shitty situation.

Mines been losing oil like this for a couple months. Ive always run 10w-30 synthetic in it. Its been about 6000km since my last oil change and ive dumped about three bottles of oil in it.
My buddy was driving behind me the other day on our lunch break and we came out of a corner and i just tramped on it and when we got back to work he informed me that a big blue cloud came out the back. (pissed)
So my guess is worn out valve seals probably due to the previous owner not changing their oil enough and letting it get low and the seals dried up and cracked... all this with only 135k KILOMETERS on it. I hate the FS.
Oh and for the guy that was running 15w-50 in his engine... If your engine is infact burning oil running 15w-50 will actually make it go through less oil as its much thicker then 10w-30 or 5w-30...
So i think my next step is to take the engine out and see if i can get a KLZE in there... Im fairly confident i can do it if i use a megasquirt. Then maybe rebuild the fs and put it in a 323 or something... I think most people dont realize how interchangable mazdas really are, almost like a honda just without the ecu tunability options and the guinea pig to try it for the first time.
I remember for years people always bringing up the topic of trying to put a miata dual cam head on a 323 single cam block (1.6 litres) and everytime someone would come along saying it wouldnt work usually claiming the dual cam block has different oil ports that the 323 block didnt.... and just the other day while searching around some old forums i read that some guy just found out that you need the dual cam headgasket which doesnt have those two ports blocked off.... just goes to show you'll never know if you dont try.
