I have a 2002 Mazada protege 2.0 i had a battery go out about 2 weeks ago it caused the check enginle light to come on. I had the battery tested and oltenator battery was bad so replaced it oltenator was fine. Check engline light was off after they replaced the battery because that reset the computer. The next day i was driving it and the car sounded and felt like it was going to quit but picked right back up the check engile flashed like 4 or 5 times and then stayed on constant. Took it to auto zone and it read milti cyclender mis fire well when this happen i was realy low on gas so I assumed that where i was going up a hill that it might have ran out gas. So i baught some fule stabilzer and put in it. Light went off and had stayed off for almost 900 miles came on tonight did the same thing except their was a full tank of gas this time. The check enginle light is saying on it only flashes the 4 or 5 times when it happens. Any ideas to what this might be? About 79000 miles on the car.

Ok i will have another read done on it, does anyone know if the fuel filter is in side or outside of the gas tank? Im not real familar with mazada cars yet because my wife does not believe she has ever had that changed.

fuel filters are more or less a part of the pump and generally not serviced by the dealership. could be bad coils, bad wires, bad plugs, vacuum leak. i would take it to a dealer and have them make a diagnosis.

Check your plugs.

If the plugs aren't it, then try the coil.

bosch plugs are bad....autozone doesnt sell the NGK's so if you bought your last set of plugs from them, i would recommend starting there. if that doesnt fix your problem, move to ignition coils.
