Harhar, got you there.
Well, if you haven't heard I recently got into a wreck. All 4 wheels are bent and I'm looking at some new wheels to put on the K-Speed. Any suggestions? I'm open to wheel ideas.
http://www.enkei.com/jpeg%20files/Wheels/NTO3_MHS.jpg
I fell inlove with these guys, but I think the main thing that is going to throw me off are the sizes. I've been advised to try doing a 17 x 17.5 front and 17 x 8/8.5 in the back. I do want to end up doing this because of the "bulldog stance" miata's have if you look from the rear. (anyone else notice this?) I think the 8 or 8.5 will look nice on the back. Also, the 4x100 is going to screw me up too.
Ok, ideas, kgo.

they are pretty sexy!
k-lea
11-20-2006, 10:05 PM
Well, yea they are. But if it's not the bolt pattern, it's the offset. That's how this seems to be going for me. It's one or the other that keeps me from getting them. I may just have to back down and deal with one instead of changing up the rears.

That looks like a wheel that would look good on a european car. I can't really describe why, but I don't think I've ever seen that style wheel on an import that I have liked.

Meh. I don't mind about cleaning issues. The RH's giving me a hell of a time as is, I don't mind going a little bit further if I feel I have wheels worth cleaning.
Btw, if Jersey ever chimes in, iirc his MSM wheels have a lot of spoke and they look like pure sexage. Most Miata's that I've seen with a more "spokey" wheel pull it off really well.
The Pana's are classic, and totally not what I'm looking for. Pana's are good for the NA's and later NB's and beater wheels, but the MSM needs some hotness.

I think the same. I'd love to snatch something with a polished lip but if anything gets messed up its my wheels. (obviously) I don't even know why I want to replace them with something pricey or somewhat pricey when I know I'll just be hitting more curbs and other road debris to eph them up.

Tis funny because I don't even know my budget yet. No one has looked at my car and I'm getting pissed. I'm not sure what the RH's run from Mazda but I'm going to guess 400ish each (I got corrected by a stoopid bird). So, my budget is going towards that. I'm going to be paying a BIG difference with the TEIN Flex, so it's whatever. I just want people to throw some ideas at me.
As for weight, there is no way in heck I'll buy a wheel heavier than my stockers. The stock RH's weigh around 22 lbs (iirc when I weighed them). That's pretty much it, just don't weigh more than the Harts.

Plus do not go with staggerd wheels and tires. It will throw off the balance of the car.
Also I do not know what your plans are but if you are going to race your car in C-stock in scca you need to have a factory size and width for you wheels.

I think here's the issue with what K-lea is looking for.
#1. STAGGERED FITMENT.
to find a staggered fitment in the 4x100 PCD is going to be difficult. Even mroe difficult if in an entry level budget.
The three wheels I can suggest that are affordable is the Sportmax
006, 009, and 962 as can be seen on our website.
Those wheels come in 17x7, 8, and 9 in the 4x100 PCD.
they are not light but neither were the RH wheels on the MSM.
Your other option would be to go expensive multipiece Japanese where I can custom build the wheel.
That's what i did for my wife's NA6 JRSC miata. We have 17x8.5 front and 9.0 rear with 245/35/17 on all four corners.
YUPS that's right. 245/35/17 IN THE FRONT on a stock body miata. It's all about offset. hehe.
In any case, I suggest you determine your budget and priorities for the wheels. Then we can provide options within those limitations.
I think one of the best options for the Miata is the Enkei RPF1 16x8.0 +38 offset. This wheel only weighs about 12lbs and is incredibly strong.
If you want 17's staggered, cheap, and lightweight it just won't happen. I can get staggered and cheap in very few brands.
So figure out the answers to those questions and from there we can move forward.
If going with 7" front and 8" rear in 17" I suggest tire sizes of 205/40/17 and 215/40/17. Ideally i'd like to have 205/40 front and 225/35 rear. Problem is that the 225/35 is shorter i believe than the 205/40/17.
Peace, Rishie

I'm not going to autox my Miata. I'm going with staggered wheels because that is what was recommended and I've talked to a few Miata owners with staggered wheels. Doesn't seem to affect them.
I've said many times on the forums that running the Miata in a 1/4 is stupid because it defeats the purpose of the car, but I ran it and now that all I want to do.

Rishie,
I have been considering 16's but I'm scared it'll look horrible on my car. I've never really stepped out and done the whole wheel thing. The only wheel change I've had is with my 2001 LS but the wheels were from a Miata of the same body style, the MSM.
It's a big purchase on my part and it can go either way. I can hate it, or love it. It's nerve racking.
ARD MP5
11-24-2006, 05:01 PM
Well imho the NA and NB chasis look best with 16's, however ours looks amazing with staggered 17's. It's all because of the color of the wheel. With the black centers it makes the wheel look smaller than a 17 so it fits real well.
In any case the sportmax is the only thing i can find you in staggered 17" and affordable.
k-lea
11-24-2006, 05:07 PM

Why not just get the larger size all the way around? There is not real point in staggering the wheels, unless you are just going for looks. If so.......
Also if you are going straight in a line (drag) then a 15" or 16" 205~225 would serve you better than a 17" wheel. Just because its larger does not mean it will be sticker if you cant find good tires for it. Also some tires have smaller contact area's than others even witht he same measurments. (A falken RT615 is wider than most other tires with the same #s)
But what are you trying to do with the car gives a better way to help us give you suggestions.
For me I have 12 wheels. The ones you see on the car (AVS ES100s), and 2 more sets of stockers 15 wheels (one with 615's and one with R-compounds)

As for your other comment, I realize a smaller wheel will be better in a line. I don't do this on a daily basis and I don't intend to have magazine spreads for the fastest MSM, yet. (evil) So I'm not really worried about getting down and dirty at the moment.
I'm trying to keep my looks and still have something that can perform. A 17" just sits right in the "middle" and is as big as I'll go. You also have to realize that a 17 is all I've ever dealt with. Like I said above, I'm nervous to go smaller because I don't want to hate the way it looks.

I second this. I've ordered two sets from them so far and they have great prices, fantastic service, and quick shipping.
When I hit a pothole in my MSP and ruined a wheel (Flik Wasp) they replaced it at the original sale price I bought them for a year prior. Even though the new price was $50 higher than I had paid.

I might as well update you guys.
I've been running around like a headless chicken these past couple of days. I ended up spending more money on shopping than I thought I would but I have some people helping me out.
I had settled on some wheels but now I'm changing my mind because of the weight of the wheels. So things have slowed down a bit. I also got screwed in some things and it just plain sucks.
I WILL NOT be doing staggered wheels. I'm just going to slap 17 x 7's all around. I will be purchasing my wheels THIS week. I have to send out some RH's for a member on the forum then I'll be getting mine.

you wouldn't "need" them, but to match the overall diameter for speedo/odo/ground clearance reasons you would want to

because 18s on the MS3 fit like 16s on the P5.
yeah you could run like a 205/40/17 on the MS3, but it would look ridiculous and I guarantee there would be a performance loss (acceleration and cornering)

k-lea

Pulled over for what?
Well, it was a one way two lane highway and I HATE when people are rating me in the other lane. After 5 minutes or so of this car being right next to me with a guy looking over at me I finally had enough (It happens a lot and gets annoying) so I down shift into 5th (oh my, 5th..) and pull away. I get to about 82 or so mph and then all the sudden lights appear out of nowhere. Of course, being my childish self I laugh because I know I could possibly go to jail and have my car impounded.
We do the usual "You are being pulled over" thing and he comes up to my window asking "Why?" Not asking for license or anything. I explain and he thanks me for my honesty. Then he proceeds to ask all the good questions and I don't have my license, so now it looks really bad. Anywho, he let me off with a warning.

Agree. I'm thinking about taking that cheap ass cap off too.
With a good washing it'll look better.

I would perhaps sand and paint the caps black. Then maybe red Work lugs.
What kind of rims are they?

For those of you who didn't get the hint a while back, The picture of Trevelyan was from Goldeneye, and his 00 number was 006. Since she bought them from Rishie, you had to go to his site and do a search and you could figure it out.

I'm diggin' the wheels. Nice choice, Kristin!
Don't sweat the dirt, I've washed my white Miata all of 2 times in the past year. It looks like ass, lol. I've never washed the turbo Miata...however, I have stripped all of the paint from it as it used to be white, heh.

Wheels look good!
BUT: The new(er than an NA lol) miata's have the same endlink design as the proteges? Weak, mazda. Seriously weak.

Car is looking great Kristin. A good cleaning gives the car a whole new look. I'm jealous that you can even clean yours right now, mine is tore up from the winter time.

I have a plan with the FMIC but someone was doing something similar and I didn't want that. I might go ahead and do it for shits and gigglets.
To answer your question; I had just got done washing it. Top needed to be up. :)
