we could argue today about the gain that a CAI will really give you.

In either event, theres 2 that are really worth looking at. Theres the AEM and theres the Injen. Both are nearly Identical...so take your pick.

Thanks man! Greatly appreciated. Basic bolt on? no fabrication?

Yup they're both basic bolt-ons. Very easy to install.

Which parts are replaced with these intakes? Filter, pipe from filter to turbo, pipe from turbo to intercooler?

Anything else, anything less?

I had an AEM, it was fine. Makes noise, looks good. Doesn't really do anything performance wise, but its a good starting point for modding.

The AEM at least has a pipe from the filter to the MAF, then the MAF to the turbo (along with the accompanying couplers), a couple hoses to move your BPV around to get it to work with the new pipes, a relocation bracket for the washer fluid resevior, and w/e bolts you need and stuff. I think thats about it. Its really easy.

Does it improve the "non flash" cars any? (because it can take bigger drinks of air?) Just curious if anyone has tested it. If not when i install mine i will let yall know

Without a series of dyno runs, its just pure butt flapping about the performance or lack thereof of an intake. I can tell you from my own expereince that it was the first mod that I put on my car. Yes its either a love hate relationship with the flutter, but I observed some differences in a few areas after putting it on. Its more of a complimentary modification IMO.

The only thing that improves a non-flashed car is either getting it flashed or installing an EMS system to overide the terrible stock programming.

Has anyone ever made their own CAI? Since it's only a few pipes, could you just take some aluminum pipe bends and slap a filter on the end? I havent really looked under the hood of my car that much yet, but it's one of the things I wanted to look into rather than spending the freakin $250 for something that looks rather simple.

get an intercooler instead. a CAI just makes some sound. depending on the intercooler kit you have, you will need to get an aftermarket intake for better fitment. but i think you'd get better gains with a better fmic or smic.

i have an injen and it is pretty nice, find a used one on here and save some money. also, i saw no gains putting the filter in the fenderwell other than a pain in the ass factor. just put the one pipe on the turbo -> maf ->filter

Yep, bought mine used too. Had to do some very minor fabrication as my system wouldn't fit using the stock isolator/body mount. No complaints though and I get major turkey now, lol.

I have an Injen CAI but just use it as a SRI now. I like it better as SRI. Not a pain in the ass to get to the filter to clean it & i noticed no power difference from CAI - SRI....

Keep the stock box, it's better at low-midrange (90% of driving here). that's based on a lot of trial-error and testing. Just drop in a good airfilter and put the money towards a SMIC, or pipes, or whatever else you prefer
