View Full Version : How long on the reserve?

Seems like you could drive for awhile on the reserve. How many miles are people getting on the reserve tank. Again today I made it to 370miles before the reserve light came on. Drove another 5 and was only able to put in 15.5gallons in (and that was filling up as much as possible). Even the needle is still not down there yet. Also have been getting 22-24mpg 70% highway.

Generally, the fuel light comes on when you have about 2 gallons of fuel left.

I'm sorry if I sound like an idiot.....but there is a reserve tank. I didn't know that.

That sounds about right. could probably get another 30-40 miles on reserve.

Looks like I was only able to put in 16.8 gallons with the gas gauge past 'E'. The light had been on for a while.

We have a '97 Subaru Outback Wagon that does that. The needle is down to "e" yet no reserve light. Actually the reserve light does not come on til way below the "e".

Our car does have about 18.5 gas tank but you will never totally empty the tank because about 1.5 gal is reserve for the fuel pump/injections system, this will save you $$$ from not damaging those parts.

Looks like I was only able to put in 16.8 gallons with the gas gauge past 'E'. The light had been on for a while.

My light normally comes on just above the " E " mark, drove it for another 40-50 miles till the needle is exactly on the "E" mark (350 miles) before refilling. It took 16.94 gallons to max top off the tank. So it looks like i maybe able to push it a little more, but then again, below the "e" mark on the hwy for another 25 miles might not be a good idea.

The reserve tank ? This is not a separate tank itself ? yes ?
Its called a "reserve" when the lights come on, since there is approx 2 gallons left ? Correct me if im wrong....

I hope to see a better mpg after my first oil change @ 3K.
