Anyone have an idea on how I can silence my exhaust some for a 10 hour road trip this coming Friday? I'm taking the family on vacation and it is a little loud for that long of a trip and was wondering if anyone has done it or has an idea?

I have a silencer that I think will fit how big is your muffler? (diamiter)

Pretty sure the GHL has a 4" tip but I can walk outside and measure it. Site I bought it from says 4.0" tip...

Anyone? I went outside and measured it and it looks to be 3-7/8" or around 96mm inside size. Looks like HKS makes a 96mm inner silencer but I am having a hard time putting my hands on one that can ship like today.

Overall, it is one badass exhaust but doing 80 down the Interstate puts off a drone sound that can wear your soul thin if you have to listen to it for 10 hours straight. The silencer will used for long road trips only obviously... lol.

I know what you mean...except do you really think the silencer will help the drone...isn't drone vibration? I love the sound of my GHL but the drone is just awefull so I'm anxious to hear the result of this. I really hope this works...keep us posted.

dont forget too, most silencers work in straight mufflers so the inner tube is straight. the ghl has a good 8" of pipe post muffler and its not straight. and in order to be effective i "believe" it coveres some of the perforations in the core, and u wont be able to do that cause youd need a curved/custom silencer

Ok... update... I just got back from vacation. I ordered the exhaust silncer from Corksport. 96mm is the size that fits the GHL. I drilled out one hole in the bottom to attach the bolt to hold it in place. It was awesome. Worked very well and made it much more enjoyable for the ride. Hell, the performance was still there also, I didn't see much drop. Highly recommended, cheap also.

Also, you can push the silencer in all the way to where the size reduces on the GHL so it is inset about 6 inches or so to be more hidden. I also painted mine black to make it even more hidden. Use a ruler to measure how far it will go in to see where you need to drill the hole for the bolt. 5 minute install.

Even if it's slighly better I'll do it. So you did notice a reduction in vibration and drone over 3000rpm when cruising and letting off the gas at those rpms?

Don't get me wrong, it is still loud, but it is more tolerable... much more tolerable... I would not have made a 10 hour road trip with my wife and two kids without it. 7 - 8 decible decrease is what they state and I would say that is correct.

when i helped design that ghl, sound level was one of my concerns, that exhaust is quiet man.
Jaysanooch

I wouldn't say quiet but I agree, it's not the loudest out there. The sound of the GHL is amazing but when you install it on a tin can un-insulated Mazda Protege......the vibration and drone is innevitable.
Just trying to take small steps to help lower the in cabin decibal levels and next step is Hushmat all over the floor and trunk.
When I'm in mood, I don't even notice anything but after rough day and splitting headache.....the drone can make me want to remove the exhaust completely.

yea, mine droned so bad i removed it too. my vibrant is alot quieter.

The drone is only bad when highway cruising over 60mph, which I don't do a whole lot of. I got the silencer for road trips etc. I love the GHL sound on a day-to-day basis. Mean exhaust man... no doubt about that. I ain't taking mine off... LIFETIME WARRANTY!... (werd)
