I have 03.5 MSP, I heard all the stories but haven't found any hardcore info on this situation. Setup is as follows.

WHEELS 17X7.5 IN FRONT AND 17X8.5 IN REAR

OFFSET 48 IN FRONT AND 40 IN REAR

BOLT PATTERN 5x114.3

Could I throw these on there with the right tires and not have any driving issues due to different widths and without any rubbing issues, since the offset is 48 in the front...

They are Volk LE37's btw.

you'll have some rubbage out back if you can squeeze an 8.5 back there.

i thought the front was more prone to rub than the back

The front sounds fine, you shouldn't have any rubbage depening on your suspension setup. I doubt you'll be able to pull off the rears, way too wide and too loww offset. They'll prob rub the strut.

The rears will not fit, the fronts would be fine. Why do you want to stagger the wheels to the rear?

Here's 7.5 width with a 48 mm offset in the rear. 8.5 width with 40 mm offset will stick out 1.3" further than this (past the fender).

i was just checking bc some volk wheels were being bid on and it was a pretty competitive price, but not worth it if it wont work eh?
