this was just something i was thinking about, i have a p5 and a 99 proto, the engine in the p5 is a fucking gutless peace of shiiiitttt!!!!! i was thinking why not put in the 1.6 i have from my banged up 99 and turbo it cuz it will turn out pant loads of power on stock, unlike the 2L so my question is can i do this? any feedback or ideas much appreciated!

Cheaper and easier to just turbo the 2.0 in the car.

KableGuy,
You need to remember that your older proto weight less than the P5. The other thing to also remember is they did not care about emission so it flowed better. Also is the P5 Auto or manual? I would do these modds before considering the P5 to be gutless. Injen CAI, Header with exhaust, high flow cat, and VTCS removal. I have just the CAI and I have noticed a big difference. My mother-in-law said it much easier to just go now. My co-worker with a Mazda3 2.3L says he "I think your car has more power or is more responsive than mine." I think the bigger engine and the dual intake will make it a better engine than the 1.6L

awsome thanx! ya it deff would cost a pretty penny. its a manual. yesterday i was just frustrated with that engine and wanted to change it, my 1.6 seemed more reliable, by reliable let me explain, when i start the p5 (when its cold) its nice and peppy but once it warms up it seems to become kinda a slug.. whats the deal??? by slug i mean 3,4th, and 5 even reving hi seem to have nothing, no pull! but when the block is cold those gears (excluding 5th) pull like crazy and it just zips right to 5000rpm (unlike when its hot). thanx again

Hey don't let them stop you from thinking and researching more. I have been thinking about this myself. If a KLZEv6 can be put into a protege, then it's possible to put a smaller engine in. You just have to figure out how.
