stopped by bestbuy today and picked up the sony keypad for the controller...and sure enough simpsons game is only 20 bucks. Ill keep my eye out for it dropping to 10 on sale i think...or see if gamestop sells used ones for 10.

jury still out on the thumb keyboard, didnt have much time last night to mess around with it. I love the way it clips to and integrates with the controller....not sure that it is super convenient to type on while holding the controller normally, and I dont know if the tactile feel is as good as it could be. Buttons seem kinda slippery and are very smooth so you can easily slip off one and hit another tiny nearby button it would seem. I will let you know once I use it a little.

As for the charger that sony charger plugs into the wall also. For me I am hoping to plug the charger into the outlet in the wall right behind my couch and then just bring a few mini-usb ends around to the end table or up over the back of the couch or something like that to plug the controllers into, so when the controllers are put away or in use there is no charging station sitting around. Just my personal preference.

Anyone know if you can use ANY usb charger for the controllers? i have a wall charger for my blackberry that uses the same mini-usb plug. Also there are a number of not playstation specific wall mini-usb chargers out there I am finding...

The buzzers use a USB connection, though, which is why they work for the PS3 and the PS2 :)

It's actually a third person shooter. Think something like resident Evil 4 in space. Great game by all accounts though. Not so much run and gun. More of a strategic dismemberment game.

You nailed the description. I tried the demo and got stressed out about it. I'm usually a run & gun style player, but also enjoy the tactical games like Rainbow Six. This just didn't do it for me. I felt very...trapped I guess is the best word. Which is probably what the developers were going for. Then again, I never was a big fan of the RE games either.

Littlebigplanet has been on sale from time to time as well - I think I remember seeing it for $35 a while back. It'll definitely go on sale again.

Battlefield is a good deal at $20. Definitely pick that up. I play almost every night, so if you do get it, add me to your PSN friends list, and you can join the server I'm on/visa versa.

I dont think I will like it as much as some of the previous versions either...the new "cool things" they add just make these games more annoying to me personally.....but I imagine the pats are amazing in it so I have to pick it up! :)

i dont know if I posted about this already but blitz did the same thing. I LOVE nfl blitz on the n64 (and all other platforms) so I saw they had a new blitz for ps3 and I was thinking oh man....the same ole blitz with better graphics? sweet!

Well not really.

They made the game infinitely more complex not in the realm of madden but almost as if they were trying to make a madden game and not a silly arcade game (which is what blitz has always been). It is way more complicated and difficult and I have only played it once...so totally not what I was hoping for when I made that purchase.

In old blitz I could be just about any team, call any play and snap the ball and then just run left with the turbo on and get some yards. In this new blitz it was difficult to simply "matriculate the ball down the field". More difficult I think than in madden.

question, We had something odd happen when trying to watch top gears on the PS3 from our PC. We've watched several episodes that way then all of a sudden ( for half of season 2 and all of season 3) we get an "Unsupported file" error when tring to watch episodes. but season 4 works fine and so on....they're all avi files so I dont get it...

any suggestions?

it all depends on the encoding of the AVI file, the AVI is only the container it depends on the encoding inside the AVI (DIVX, XVID, etc...) only certian types of Divx and Xvid are supported on the PS3

In other news my video game spree has ended. Got Burnout Paradise from Sean, LittleBigPlanet, Lego Indiana Jones (had to have this after playing the demo), and the simpsons from ebay and downloaded/bought Crash Commando from PSN finally.

Only one I have so far is Crash Commando and it is SWEEEET! Its such a wild/new concept (to me). Great game so far especially for 10 bucks.

The only other games on the horizon for me are madden 09 when it gets really cheap and used copies are dirt cheap and CoD4 if I can find it really cheap. I have CoD5 and already played CoD4 on the PC when it first came out so I cant rationalize spending too much on it for the ps3.

I think there is some way to do it with VLC but I have never tried it.

I would recommend converting the MPEG video files, as the ps3 reads that without problems

there are a couple of applications you can pickup if you know to right places *hint*hint*

and from there its just google how to convert. It shouldn't be that hard but it is time consuming and you need a decent CPU to handle the load.

just be careful with the sound when demuxing as it can easily fall out of sync.

beyond that I can't help all that much as I defaulted to the "screw it I'm too lazy to do this"

Look into VirtualDub for video conversion on Windows platform. UPnP is never a completely reliable solution. You shouldn't even need it if both machines are hooked up to the same router. I'm pretty sure UPnP is only for communicating to sources external to your network. It shouldn't be an issue on your home network.

Media servers are application that allow you to connect your PS3 or other Upnp or DLNA protocol capable system to your computer to directly access your media files ( movies, music, pic, etc) , chances are you already have one set up if you have windows media player running on your computer and you have your PS3 connected to the network in your home

there are a few different versions of DLNA servers around personally I use MediaTomb (linux GNU based)

but a media server dosen't help in the paying of unsupported files though, unless this one is special

PMS will automatically transcode files that the PS3 doesn't support and stream it to the ps3. File browsing is super easy - no need to set up a library or anything like that. It'll allow your ps3 to play .mkv files, .vob, .flac (lossless audio), and more.

With Windows Media Player, the latest version, you can share your libraries. If your PS3 is on when you have your computer on, you can select it to see your library. Use the little arrow under "Library" and click Media Sharing. Configure it from there. I have both 360s, the PS3, and just about everything else selected.

Just FYI - they have fixed that bug. It was either a game patch or system update, can't remember which. Also the more trophies you earn the higher your overall "level" goes....which is essentially the same thing as a "gamerscore".

Generally I feel the same way.....but oddly enough I've gone back and replayed things over and over just to try to get some of the trophies. I'm not sure why....some were for the sense of accomplishment because they can be very tough to get, and other times I do it just cuz there's still a limited set of games that even have them and I do enjoy comparing my trophies to my online friends for some reason. I'm guessing that'll wear off once more and more people have a zillion trophies and are at "level 10" but for now it actually has gotten me to put in more time with some of my games. I've been trying to get into Madden '09 (someone gave it to me as a gift) and I really can't. They've eliminated all the features I liked about the prior versions of Madden. The front office control where you set ticket/food prices has been neutered, you can't save up and build a new stadium anymore, the training modules have been cut and they all look like the movie tron, and gameplay is pretty boring. The commentary is weak, and the in game stats suck.

EA looks like they rushed it to production and forgot a lot of things that made the past Maddens fun. All that's left now is a hollow shell of a game with a bunch of fancy pre-snap controls and audibles.

for me they're a bit of a mark of how much time I can (or can't) put into gaming, but also another set of objectives not necessarily inherently in the game as played by the standard user. They can make a title last for more hours than originally planned, which makes the game more valuable, in my mind. Crackdown was an excellent example. The game has to be fun first, though. If it sucks, I won't waste any more time with it.

(werd) I'd rather be playing actual games, then being in a virtual space talking about it. You get your own apartment, can decorate it, etc. I spent some time in the beta, and found, immediately, that it was a waste of time. You can watch trailers in a movie theater, etc. I'm sure it's a bit more fleshed out since I looked at it a couple years ago, but still the same concept.

I read online that when connecting HDMI cables you should make sure that all equipment is powered off, not turned off but that not electricity is getting to the units you are hooking up. Just food for thought.

They didn't add trophy support until a few months ago. If your gonna play it again, I suggest you delete all of your saved game data so you don't miss out on all the trophy's

IMO they are not not terribly well done, in that you have to really look deeply to get any idea of the gamer you're looking at, since there's no quick summary, like on XBL where you have the constant score.

Other than that, they often give you other goals in a game that are not inherent to the game's design, extending the gameplay and giving you new ways to play.

From what I understand it's a multiplayer co-op (online/offline) platforming game with options to make/share your own levels. Last time I checked, there were something like 84,000 levels that people have created.

Chris it has some basic levels but most of the game play is user created levels you can play online. I have not had a lot of game time but my lil sis has and she likes it. pretty much any level that looks like a copyrighted product gets yanked. I just hate how every comment on a level is "Come play my LVLZ!" It's fun for co-op, and the physics, and the puzzles.
