I picked up a ps3 bundle as well. Thanks to Santos letting me know about the whole BC thing. I was planning on waiting longer.

So far it's pretty nice. I wish it had more media center capabilities - with mp3's, videos, etc.

I've downloaded like 20 demos. Civ Rev was fun, but I wish it had a hotseat ability. The wife and I can't play now unless we buy her a ps3 and a second Civ Rev game. no way.

GRiD looks pretty fun. Madden and NCAA look great, but I'm not into getting the sports games. Maybe when 10 comes out I'll pick up 09.

MGS4 is freaking awesome though. I am enjoying Ace Combat 5 as well (since 6 is only available on the 360).

I've been very pleased with my PS3 so far.. I've mostly been playing College Hoops 2k8, with a little Madden thrown in here and there. I've been impressed with both games.

Burnout, as I mentioned, was a big disappointment. When I get tired of Madden and Hoops, I'm going to pick up Tiger Woods 09 and Civ Rev.

I'm pleased that the console supports both DTS and Dolby. Most of my games are DTS encoded, and the movies are Dolby. Ironman was mixed VERY well. My subwoofer got a workout.

I absolutely love when I'm playing a sports game, and the crowd goes nuts, that I can even hear the crowd blaring out of the rear speakers.. Kudos, audio engineers!

don't give up on Oblivion, it's an incredible game with a deep, and large world.

They did an awesome job supporting every format for audio and video out there. But imagine how many users would be confused by that. They should do a little explaining of each option, or a simple/advanced selection. The 360 could definitely do better there.

What kind of character did you play? I don't see how you can say there's no roleplaying, considering the numbers of different playable species combined with the depth of major and minor skills to be chosen from. What do you think it was missing?

Here's the list I already had (made an excel file to track PS3 and 360 names on this forum). Those that want their names on the list, and aren't there already, add them on. A couple I have PSN names, but not mazda forum name, for some reason.

I've moved my PS3 from the basement with my big tv to upstairs on the small TV (42") so I can watch Blu-ray upstairs. The wife is still recovering from her foot surgery so I can't hang out in the basement as much and still watch the kids. So I'm screwing around with it a little more, setting up media server access to compare it's speed and functionality to BeyondTV/BeyondMedia - which I use for all my TV and media sharing needs. I do like the photo album feature, except that you can't select an individual picture for viewing from there.

^^ Very true. 2 weeks ago I finally got the G25 wheel and couldn't be happier about the purchase. The wheel brings a whole new level of driving in Prologue (or any driving game). The times you get are much faster, driving doesn't strain you hand from smashing you fingers through all the corners, and it is awesome when you can trail brake and use part throttle through the turns.

I also finally bought the F1 car in the game, and I have to say that it is done much better in GT then even the official F1 racing game. I tired out the car on the Fuji racetrack to see how the times would compare to actual F1 cars since the race was held in japan this weekend at the Fuji track. My fastest time to date on the track was a 1 min. 20 sec. The fastest times from last weeks F1 race were about 1 min. 18 sec. Its awesome to see how realistic the tracks and cars are made.

Yeah it is. I got it for alot lower because I had a gift card type thing and a discount code. It took me a while to wait for a discount, but I have found there are almost never any. The best place to get it from is Amazon because there is no tax and free shipping.

If you are getting the F1 car remember you need to finish the S license first in order to buy it.


On another note, anyone look into Playstation Home. I have read on a few websites that it is supposed to come out soon, but like with everything else with sony it is delayed. Looks kind of like the sims (as in you have a person you can walk around with and chat with other people), and it is supposed to help fix the problems with not being able to join into games with your friends easily. Also it is supposed to make your PS3 into a sort of TV server/ TiVo and you can watch your live TV through the PS3 and onto a PSP if you have one.

Glyph, explain the appeal of LittleBigPlanet to me please. I only know 3 things about it, it's a PS3 exclusive title, it's co-op and you can create your own levels. I am not sure why people are losing their minds about it though. If it's the level design thing, then I guess I could understand that but from what I've read, it's receiving Spore-level hype.

Basically, you can create to your hearts content, the graphics are amazing, all the critical reviews say it's incredible. Some guy built a functioning calculator, for pete's sake. You're not just limited to certain items they give you, either. You can create almost brand new stuff from scratch. I'm sure, just like Spore, there will unfortunately be LittleBigPenis' all over the place. I love a good puzzle game based on physics and such, so there should be some good fun. Download all the videos on PSN about it, and you'll get a better idea. Further, with consumer-generated content, rated by consumers, there should be a lot of fun stuff to play with. It's also integrated with eye-toy, so you can put pictures of all kinds of stuff in your levels. Like... I dunno... your mazda?

I got little big planet this sunday. Almost all of the games I have now either involve shooting or driving or a combination of both. This game is very "different". I was able to play it for a couple of hours and it made a great first impression. Playing the pre made levels is like a combination of super mario and donkey kong, with x100000 graphics. If anyone here gets the games, let me know, cause I want to try out the online multiplayer on the game.

Wipeout HD is supposedly really good. Burnout Paradise. Pixeljunk Eden (demo available) is pretty fun, too. Megaman 9 (demo out for that, too)...

I don't know about SC4, but SW:TFU controls are pretty poor. I played it on 360, and it was VERY frustrating, but I also played it on hard first time through. It's a rental, or a cheap purchase, but not $60 worth. It would be a lot more fun on easy.

As for PSN, i'm still shocked at just how little stuff is on there.

I played the demo on my freind xbox. and WOW, seriously its rocking. Alot of sniping in it which im not a fan but the dogs really get to you and come out of no where. riding in the tank is cool but you become an easy target.

I am so pissed off about the PS3 and PSN and their customer service right now! I changed my email address to a new one I'm using, and now my save games say they won't allow me to collect trophies because I copied my save games from someone else. WTF Sony?

I called support: She said it was caused by another problem, and "Nothing we can do". So I got to a supervisor who told me the problem was changing my some part of my profile and said there's nothing they could do. WTF? I didn't copy anyone's stuff, I didn't change my PSN ID, I didn't even log out, and now I can't get trophies with LBP unless I delete my old save data and start all over again. WTF Sony?

I hung up, wanted to call again to see if I could change my PSN ID, because there's no way to do it through the PS3 or online! My son came up needing me to wipe his nose, and the lady hung up on me! I later found the name I wanted is already taken, and I found out there IS no way to change your name, you have to create a new account (based on what I found online, you might be able to do it over the phone). WTF Sony?

Add this to the numerous disconnections and UI issues. I wanted to change my email address, enter the password. Now I want to update my profile, enter the password. Now I want to update my billing info, enter the password. Why can't I enter it ONE time and have access to everything? WTF Sony?

I was almost done writing a long message to someone, (with the controller), and I was disconnected from PSN. Does it automatically try to reconnect? No. I hit send, and since I'm now offline, instead of adding it to a queue and sending when I'm online, it completely deletes the message, so now I have to manually reconnect and do it again. WTF Sony?

So I turn on my bluetooth keyboard. Does it find it automatically, even though it's already paired? Nope. I have to manually connect it first. WTF Sony?

I saw Batman - Asylum at the local Game Stop. I haven't read into the game that much, but if it looks anything like the cover on display and if it's like the graphic novels.. it ought to be niiice and most likely very "dark".

I like the Fallout series, but the gore reminds me of Resident Evil and Gears of War. I don't really want my kid to see all that. He plays Soccom and Halo, but of course, it's not as bad as those other titles. Besides, big dead, mutated zombie things gives him nightmares. Even though he doesn't have a huge problem with the flood in Halo - which is weird.

I make sure the kids are away, or in bed when I play games like that. When they're around I play things like racing games or LBP. It's good to have options for the different restrictions. I one let my daughter, she was 7 at the time, watch GoW, and she was fine watching it, and actually liked it. My ISP is Comcast, and I don't get terrific speeds. Maybe in a burst I'll get 8mbps, but on average I'm getting about 4-6mbps.

I use a Netgear wpn824 for my router. I don't really have anything special done to it, aside for some ports forwarded for some computer games. As far as the PS3 goes, I just have the PS3 hooked up to my wireless network. I'm running WPA2-PSK, which works well, and is supported by the PS3. I get OK speeds with games. I'm not sure about COD, as I'm not a big fan of shooters. I'm more of a sports/driving guy.

Also about online play...do you have to pay and/or enroll in some playstation online thing to play online or can you host a game and have your friend connect to you like on a PC?

I can help with some:

Good question on the blu-ray HDMI thing. I've always used HDMI so it's not a factor. Is there a DVI (white plug like on newer computer monitors) plug on the TV? HDMI can directly convert to a DVI plug, but it doesn't carry sound, only the video.

PSN (Playstation Network) is free. Just sign up and play.

The controllers only charge while the console is on. Stupid, IMO.

Any bluetooth keyboard will work. I'm using a folding one that I bought for my PDA. I have not heard of nor seen any mapping. It's only for text input.

I was concerned about the wireless controllers at first. I was used to the old style RF controllers that the 8 bit nintendo had. I remember how much I hated those.

Anywho, when I got the ps3 I had originally planned to keep the controllers plugged in.. Well that took only a few hours to break. The PS3 wireless controllers are fantastic, and hold a charge for a long time. I'll be the first one to tell you that I was skeptical at first, but they won me over.

Well u can actually charge your controller on any Mini usb cables... I normally just hook it up to my phone charger or my cable box (some time warner cable boxes have a usb port in front)

and the controllers last for ever, I think they work up to 30 hrs... I havent personally put it to the test, but I do go 1 week of hardcore playing (that would be like 4 hrs a day, so 28) w/o chargign

We've been playing Rock Band 2 and Buzz Quiz TV. Both are very fun games. I've also been playing Valkyria Chronicles. I have a pretty decent backlog of new games to play thanks to Amazon and Black Friday :)

Demos can be downloaded by browsing games by title in PSN. Go to each game individually and see if there's a demo available. Thanks to that, I was able to download demos for games like Heavenly Sword, Dynasty Warriors Gundam, and a whole slew of others.

So I went to gamestop over the weekend and turned in some old PS2 games for some credit and took advantage of their buy 2 get 1 free on used games. Was able to get GTA IV, Assasains Creed and F1 Championship racing.

Also picked up Dead space and have been playing that pretty much non stop lol Awesome game. Already on Chapter 7.

just wanted to say i played the simpsons demo via psn. i thought it was great. I had forgotten what a random pointless video game was like. All I have played since the n64/ps1 came out were fighting/FPS/racing type games. Its 60 bucks everywhere right now but when i comes down and price and the used copies come down along with it...ill be sure to pick it up.

I was extremely disappointed with Burnout Paradise!

Prologue is worth $60 if you have a wheel. That's the key to enjoying the game! Especially car enthusiasts like ourselves!

Yeah... I had high hopes for burnout paradise as well. It was the first game I purchased for the system.

I wanted it to be more like Burnout 3. The whole open map deal doesn't work very well. I might trade that game in at gamestop. I'm trying to figure out if I want Civ Rev, Tiger Woods, or NHL '09 more.

Plugs into an outlet as opposed to the USB port....I dont care for the fact that you have to have the PS3 on to charge a remote, and this solves that, wewt!

if you have a bluetooth keyboard, that will work. That's what I did with my old PDA keyboard. It folds up nicely, too. Check for a used one online or something.

yeah a bluetooth or even USB keyboard should work. I use a bluetooth keyboard.

As for PSN (PlayStation Network), you can set up an online account tied to a credit card and then purchase things through that. I've only bought one thing so far, but it seems to be pretty painless. Works faster than the Wii Shop Channel, too :)

Dude, the Simpson game for PS3 was $10 at Best Buy on 2 different occasions....one of the times was just recently because I picked it up for a buddy for x-mas. Even regular price for it now is only $19.99 at most stores.

stopped by bestbuy today and picked up the sony keypad for the controller...and sure enough simpsons game is only 20 bucks. Ill keep my eye out for it dropping to 10 on sale i think...or see if gamestop sells used ones for 10.

I've been holding out on Civ Rev for Target clearance - some places have been reported to be around $15. I would jump on it for 37, but the lack of local multiplayer really sucks (the wife and I would both play). We're not about to buy 2x of the game plus another ps3 for multiplayer to happen!
