So today's my b-day and I got some cash to spend on games. Guys got any suggestions? I've got COD4 and UT3. Had motorstorm and sold it. Rented uncharted and beat it. Rented Assasins and got bored. Rented NFS and didn't like it. I'm thinking maybe Burnout? So whats the latest on GT5P? I think I would go ahead and get that if it were going to out anytime soon. I've demod Ratchet and Clank and liked it. Haven't played anything else. Others I'm thinking about:

I couldn't get in to Ratchet and even my kids only got a few days of playing it. We'll come back to it someday!

Turok looks good but I thought that wasn't coming too soon!? Hunting Dinosaurs sound very fun!!!

Burnout is good but very different layout than the series but frustrating at times with it's open-ness when you take a wrong turn right at the end of an event.

It's kind of a pain having to scour the city just to find the event you want and then realize you need a different car!? My kids got very frustrated with it having to watch very closely on the map for your turns at 180mph! I usually would help by acting like a co-driver!

Warhawk is definately a worthy purchase very much like UT3 in being fast paced but the addition of the Warhawk flying brings a whole new battlefield. I still say none compare to COD4! The realism makes it addicting!

Lair frustrating controls at first but fun! Mission based very similar to Ace Combat only your on a dragon instead of in a jetfighter!

I've never played any of the burnout series so what would you compare it to? I really liked NFS cabon and underground 2. I like the free roam style and it sounds like this burnout it kinda like that. I may enjoy that. One of my biggest problems with NFS pro street was the controls. I hated that I could customize them to my liking. I do NOT like the accelerator on the shoulder buttos. I'm old fashion. I like the x for go and square for stop.

Conflict looks kinda cool. I really do want warhawk. I'm wondering how big the community is and will be for future fun. So many choices, so few dollars.

I rented the new Burnout and didn't really care for it because it was TOO much of an open world racing. Too often you have a specific task to do but unless you MEMORIZE the entire map you're screwed as far as doing it faster than anyone else. The map is almost impossible to memorize because it's huge and while in the game a lot of the "landmarks" basically look to similar to tell them apart at 100+ MPH. And no you cannot remap the buttons -- your accelerator is stuck with the shoulder button...which I agree I don't really like -- I prefer X as my accel and square for my brake. Plus last time I checked, Road Rage mode wasn't available to play online for some reason...even though that's the PERFECT mode for online because it doesn't rely on memorizing the map.

I really liked the ending to Assassin's creed. I don't seem to have the same requirements that others do for game endings. If it fits the storyline, and it makes sense, then it works. I wasn't so up for the Halo 2 ending, it was too abrupt. But with assassin's creed, there are a few puzzles to work out what is being said in those diagrams. That was fun to figure out. I just think that people often get too demanding of some big explosive ending or something, and if it isn't perfect, they get judgmental. Enjoy it for what it is.

What do you mean? On either machine you still have to download it and that's the most painful part. Installing takes almost no time at all and I can't imagine it eats up much hard drive space.

The nice thing too with some PS3 games (Unreal Tournament, Devil May Cry) you can install the game to the hard drive...which hasn't been offered on the XBox yet. Doing that saves a bunch on load times. More games will likely go that route I'm guessing.

You can't play them without the disk. Wouldn't that be nice lol. It is just for loading purposes mostly. Speeds things up.

That seems weird to me.....I don't know why the XBox would behave differently than the PS3 in this case because it sounds like that should/would be a limitation of your TV (i.e. whether the TV can pass through 5.1 on its optical out or not). Odd.

Also, a FREE downloadable Aerosmith song was just put up on PSN for Guitar Hero 3.

nowadays, devices talk to each other, so the PS3 is limiting it's audio output over HDMI to what the TV can handle. Besides, there's no reason to do pass-through, you're just introducing a slight delay to the signal. The only way audio over HDMI is really useful (when using a receiver) is if the receiver can take the audio out of the HDMI signal. Mine doesn't...

Anybodies "players met" tab working. Mine isn't. One thing I did notice, when I first started up the ps3 I assigned a user name for the primary. When I signed up for the network, I assigned a totally different name. A couple of days later my primary user name for the console changed to my network name. Didnt really think much about it b/c with xbox your name is your network name. But the thing is my players tab does not show anyone on the list. Is anyone having this problem?

Called PS3 support and they didn't have anything to say about it. Said I might have violated one of there terms and conditions...??? I asked how the fuck, but then again they couldn't explain to me which one or how???

Mine never worked with COD4 but it does work with warhawk and motor storm. The two games I never play.(go figure)

Charging is absolutely one of the worst things ever. You see the PC onlines charging? GameSpy is probably the biggest and they don't charge. Xbox is ripping people off by charging. PS might have some things to work out, but its young yet so give it time.

Anyone think Xbox will adopt BD now that DVD is dead? I'm sure microsoft won't want to give in and will come up with something new of their own.

i dont have cod4 for the ps3 but i kept getting disconnected when dl demos. in the 2yrs with live i have only had problems this past christmas. i couldnt log in for a couple of days. in the 4 days i had my ps3 i got random disconnects atleast once every couple of hours. point is they still have alot of problems with their service. im gonna give it few more months before i give ps3 another try.

Sony just doesn't have the cash in the bank that MS does, especially with the lack of game and hardware sales up til now.

On another note, for some reason the system is not upscaling my "burnout paradise" to 1080p as the system does this for my other games i.e. "uncharted". I call support and ask them what was going on and the guy first of all sounded like he didn't know jack. Then he says that the system doesn't upscale any games, that you can only play the in the specified resolution. So then I ask, "so why the hell is the system upscaling my 'uncharted'"? He then says that I am lucky, I just laugh at him and ask if he is serious...??? And he said I am.

I also asked why doesn't my "players met" tab work. Why doesn't it log the players I met. He tells me that the tab only logs players with mics...??? WTF??? He then tells me that it could be a wifi connectin problem that I should try and hard wire the system and see if it will pick it up. He tells me that if that doesn't work, I will need to replace the system. At this point I am getting pissed... To make matters worst, he tells me its a known issue and its a hit or miss type of thing W T F???

I then ask, why did the system change my console user name to my PSN user name? He had no answer.

I think it comes down to the individual. Me, I have experience with both Live and PSN and I'd take PSN every day of the week. It offers everything I want/need for free. Live offers a few extra nicities but definitely nothing that warrants its price. I think MOST people that play online don't really need anything deluxe -- just a simple interface to find people to compete with and know whether their friends are playing or not. That's it. I haven't experienced any issues with PSN connectivity either unlike the post x-mas problems Live had. My only real complaint with PSN is how slow things download.

Also, this system is very touchy, complicated and all sorts of shit. I am almost at the verg of going DOMINOY2K's route by just letting it sit for a while and going back to my elite.

I saw the same thing happen to a couple guys at circuit city. I was looking for speaker wire, and two employees were obviously troubled at something with the PS3 on a big screen. It turns out the game only ouput at 720p, and they were trying to get it to play at 1080p. I turned over the game case and showed them it was set to 720, and they were out of luck. They both looked surprised.

You guys crack me up. You really think because you pay that money it is being used to make it better. MS has plenty of money to do it right (and I'm sure it doesn't cost them much at atll) and not have you pay for it. They aren't turning that money around to make it better. I also have never had one issue with PSN. Domino, it sounds like you are having connection issues on your end. I DL demos and games all the time and never have a problem. Don't think thats a PSN issue.


It's just business sense. A network like that requires a LOT of overhead. It's being paid for by somebody (read: customers, who else?), whether it's immediately visible or not. Sony just doesn't have the cash in the bank that MS does, especially with the lack of game and hardware sales up til now.

Yes, I have 1080I, and 1080p checked and unchecked the 720p. Otherwise, the system will revert back to the native resolution specified for that individual game. For example, COD4, even though it states all resolutions, it is a 720p PS3 game natively. Therefore if I have 720p checked along with everything else it will revert back 720p and will not run in 1080p. I don't want that shit. If the game states 1080p I shouldn't have to uncheck anything and the game should run at the highest resolution the T.V. is capable of.

Because currently it's up to the developers of the games themselves to implement that feature. So it's on a per-game basis right now. This 'should' change once PSN Home comes out but who knows for sure until it actually comes out. Personally, for me, it's a feature I don't care much about so it doesn't bother me...it's kind of an example of a nice feature that would be an excuse to charge for the service like MS Live does.

Yes, I check all the time. I mean if I think I am not getting it, I check. You know what I noticed also, is that Burnout paradise runs at a very low resolution. Doesn't run @ my normal 1920 x 720p. It runs @ like 1350 x 720p or some shit like that...or I think even lowers... Fucking sony, why the hell don't they just integrate all resolutions on their games.

I might have come off in bad way, but I just don't understand why some still try to compare PSN to Live. As I mentioned before, if sony would put a little more effort into the PSN I am sure without a doubt they will be on the same level. I never stated that it will never be. I never stated that I 'can't wait' as Thrill mentioned.

As for Thrill, like I give two craps what he thinks or has to say now. I have said before and time again that I am happy with the system. I love uncharted, that game is good. And I am waiting for some other games to come out that will hopefully be in native 1080p that are PS3 exclusives.

I do not own a 360 but I've played it many times and do own an original XBox with Live. I stand by my statement in that the PSN and Live are VERY SIMILAR. They both allow you to get online with your game and take on other human opponents - the main concept of online gaming. The rest is just "fluff". The things you listed that Live offers are exactly what I already stated -- basically the "dashboard". My statement still stands that most games don't need dedicated servers, so you ARE paying $50 a year for the dashboard features. Does the PSN have all of those features, no not right now. Are those dashboard features worth $50 a month to me?--NO. That's all I was saying. To some people those features may be worth it and that's fine, to me they're not. In addition, most of those features WILL likely be offered FOR FREE once PSN Home comes out, for those that actually care.

I only own 2 games (that I know of) that support custom soundtracks....Super Stardust HD and High Velocity Bowling. In both of those you start the game like normal and then the game has an option menu in it to pick music from your HDD. For these 2 games it's pretty cool - perfect games for custom soundtracks. For other games I own I haven't tried it...I guess I should just out of curiosity to see what supports it which don't.

Wow, I paid $25 for my ps2 :) a guy said his broke. I said I'll buy it for $25 if I can fix it. It was just dirty as hell, like coke spills and stuff. I opened it up, cleaned everything including the laser, and it worked just fine. That's how I got mine :)

I was in the Home beta, and I just thought it was silly. I personally have no need for a second life kind of avatar based virtual space. It just gets in the way.

As for downloadables, the best has to be the GTHD! There are demos, but I haven't looked at PSN for a long time. I just remember being horribly unimpressed by it. It was difficult to navigate. More suited to having a mouse.

Its not superior really. PSN is coming out with some great new stuff and will continue to do so. xbl will be surpassed very soon and already is in theory.

AS for entry price it is less expensive to get into a Playstation than it is an xbox...if you want the same features (retail price wise). Playstation is all inclusive. Xbox you have to buy the extras. Pay for xbl, pay for the HD-DVD drive (which is now a waste of money), and I think you pay for the wirless adapter extra. Maybe the resident fanboy can chime in for sure. Anyway, the price will come down soon I'm sure. There will be new 120-160 gigs too so the others will drop when that happens. An 80 gig will be a nice pickup with that happens.

Also try ebay. I know used is a bit daunting but many are guaranteed. All these xbox guys that can't figure them out end up selling them off for a nice price. My buddy just got a used 60 gig for cheap. Its in perfect condition.

I got it mostly for media, blu ray for my theater, and the hope that better games come for it this year. got my hands on Uncharted tonight. Graphically it's gorgeous in hd. But, after 2 hours in I'm at 25% completion????? Wow, this has got to be short. Fun so far though but I don't like this new trend of games lasting 8-10 hours. Way too short.

Its not long at all. It is pretty long, I would have to say atleast 12 to 15 hours of play. You must be playing on easy. Glyph, if you interested I would suggest buying the game it is worth it. Even when you beat it you will still want to replay it over and over. As you replay you unlock more things to accomplish your goals. You can change the game with different options. It is a very very good game.

I checked out a best buy last week and they are only selling the 40gb PS3's? wtf? There has been a lot of PS3 model shuffling. I've heard as high as 120Gb will be the next model. The 40gb is the lowest size hard drive currently available in teh US. What are you looking for?

This is more of a PS2 thing, but I just started playing GT4 again. You can say I'm am "preparing" for GT Prologue (bowdown). I have to say, the graphics aren't as good as the HD concept demo, but at least I can drive on more then one course. Anyone else going to get this? I hope they keep the Top Gear downloads and review thats supposed to be in the game. I have already pre-ordered GT Prologue and Grand Theft Auto 4, and cant wait for them to come out. I heard that GTA is supposed to have 16 person multilayer too :eek:.

Hahahha, I was to busy playing the game to post. I had my computer on and was gonna post here, but once I sat down I couldn't stop. After about 2 hours of play this is what I have noticed:

Good:
- Graphics and play are MUCH better then HD Concept.
- Ferrari (even there f1 car)!!!!!
- Points/money are easy to gain
- Overall finish is very impressive
- Online play is soooo addictive, but a bit short on laps (maybe it will have more laps as you unlock things)
- GT-TV is for real, but there is nothing uploaded yet.
- You can "tune your car setting"

Bad:
-Car selection is pretty scarce, about 60 something, but most of the cars that are out are the important cars anyway (GTR, Z06, F430, M3,....)

-Online play is AWSOME, but there is 1 huge problem. You can not invite or join other people specifically, like in COD4 and such. No matter what, it randomly assigns you to a server it chooses (of the same race type you choose). The only positive is you can play with the same people over and over if you want, i.e. stay in the server. What I see happening is people trying to jump in and out and hopefully getting matched with there friends and then just staying in that one server.

-You can not buy parts to upgrade your car.

-No damage!!


Overall it is awesome, and you can clearly see GT5 is progressing over time. I cant wait for the official full game. And I hope they fix the multilayer thing.

Now GTA-4, that will be a true full game.

For me the gameplay is much better then HD concept. The actual sounds of the cars are better, the inside view is awesome, and the detail in the cars is great. The physics are very good also. The only lame parts are multiplayer matching, and the lack of upgrades.

Good news. I found out that GT5p will have an option to play/invite friends soon, it will be available as a download update. Also the first episodes of Top Gear for GT-TV should be available at the end of the month. And in fall they will be adding DAMAGE to the cars as a update also. All of this will be in Prologue as well as the full game.

As of now I already have 4 cars. Honda Integra Type-R, GTR R35, Audi R8, and a Suzuki Cappuccino, lol.

I was gonna get the g25 wheel with the game, but my plans kind of changed. I bought some enkei rp-f1 wheels in "real life". If only money was as simple in real life as it is in Gran Turismo. Eventually I will get it though. The game is also more fun and realistic with the wheel, and easier to drive.

My bad, let me clarify a little better. Having just spent $10k on my motor & tranny I plan to get a quality wheel for under $100 most likely the logitech pro with the shifter. It's inexpensive and better than the ps controller like I've been using since GT3. If there is a better one in that price range anyone recommends over it.

Looks like the average price is around 80is, but on ebay some go for about 65 shipped (supposidly new). After looking at it, I am realy tempted to buy it also. I can get 5.1 out of the menu, but as soon as the movie starts, it goes to 2 channel stereo no matter what options I have selected. If one of you have it can you pop it in and see? I have the kids watching it here with me, or I'd try different movies.

No but I figured it out somewhat... The only thing you can toggle is trans, active steering???, ASM (DSC) in our terms, and traction. I just got third in the class B 6th race with the type r with the following specs:

trans - manual
active steering - strong
ASM - off
traction - 5

You know you are not supposed to win races in B spec with the Type R. You need to get money and buy a better car for B class, EVO, R34, M3 or such for that class. And for Class A you will need a R35 or F430 to win races. The easies way to make money is to play online, or you can just re-do previous races.

Also, you CAN tune the cars, but first you need to win Classes A, B, and C. After you beat A is when the fun starts and you also unlock a lot more online races which you get $34,000 for 3rd place in one online race that is 3 laps (the money adds up really fast after that). After you finish class A races you also unlock class S, which has even more races and better cars. You can tune a lot of things (stability control, abs, brake bias, gear ratios, chamber, toe, weight, hp, tires, ride height, and so on) . You get a limited amount of points to tune, so you need to choose wisely, but you don't actually buy any parts.

Right now I am saving up to get the F1 car. I have about 400,000 of the 2 million $ needed.

I haven't played since sunday but there were no problems earlier. The error code means it has problem establishing a connection to host. It happened to me a few times, but right afterward it should try to re-join and it should work. I will try it out later and see if it works for me. I hope it won't have the same problems as COD4 had eariler.

Anyone watched the couple shows that were on GT-TV? I have seen the evo one and the GTR and both were awsome.

Nat 3 is very restricting you need to change your settings to nat 2, try entering your ps3s ip address into dmz zone in your router settings

Hahahah, so ture. I found it best if you stay in the middle of the pack, and then on the final lap or two pass them up. If you start first, you are almost guranteed to get smashed from behind and end up last.

I got it working by disabling my UPnP. Man a bunch of F'kin animals racing online. It pretty much gives you no choice but to fight back. It still amazes me that despite all these years of GT being out, that half of the people online don't know the racing line or the concept thereof. Case in point, High Speed Ring circuit has been out since GT came out and I still see a lot of people off the line. Lacking that critical knowledge, people compensate with aggressive blocking and contact which ironically slows you down even more especially when you get so caught up in that aspect that you forget to set yourself up for the braking zone/entry of the next corner.

^^+1. Its funny to see people (especially on beginner with the type-r's) on the high speed ring right after the straight away and past the long sweeping bank turn. On the first sharp corner I start breaking on the outside about about 4 blinks into when the indicater shows up. Everyone flys by me on that turn, but then all you see is a HUGE cloud of smoke and people understearing straight into the barrier. I always manage to gain about 5 places on that one turn alone (dunno). The thing is that once you play in the expert mode (with ferraris and zo6's) the people actually know what they are doing.

Can someone please explain to me wtf is up with my Dualshock3 controller. It does not vibrate. I have turned it on in the menu. Or does the vibration only work with a few games. It does not work with COD4, MLB 07, GT5, and I havent' tried Uncharted. WTF???

that's exactly it... since it wasn't available as a launch feature of the ps3, only certain games have it. Some have patches that are supposed to support it. I have no idea which ones. Basically, if a game came out before the support was available, it will likely NOT work.

Did anyone else have a hard time connecting to games after the most recent update to COD4? I loaded it and then Dl the maps. After that I could hardly connect to a game. Sucked because I didn't get much double XP time. I only went from 45 to 50. Could have made through a full prestige if it had been working right! New maps are ok. Not worth the 10 bucks tho.

I'll be getting back to GT5P. Still haven't tried it online.

it was also available in team objective this weekend. Thats what I played so we could get the double xp on S&D games. 100 pts per kill was nice. I'm in the top 3 in kills every time I play S&D so the extra bump in xp was nice since I have decided to try to top out. I wish now though that I never started prestige. I want my stars back :(

You're definitely doing something wrong then. Vibration works great in GT5. I can't remember if support was added to COD4 or not.....I think it was but I haven't played it in a while. Either way you DEFINITELY should have it in GT5. Go to the controller menu in GT5 and make sure it's enabled.

Success!!!! Got GTA4 home a second ago. It is installing now (taking pretty long though). Gamestop got it a day early (normally takes a day for it to ship to the store). The store said they had over 600 pre orders (ps3 and xbox together), and this is not a really popular store location. I am also lucky I got there in time, cause they were already sold out of the xbox version (even for the people who pre ordered), and had only 15 left for the ps3 when I got there.

Because neither console can render your whole viewing distance, so there's pop-in involved.

without having seen the game in person, I can say this: a lot of games use a soft-image look to cut down on jaggies (the pixelated angles computers have to generate since screens aren't analog, but digital grids) and to reduce processing power. Sometimes it's more of an artistic thing, sometimes more for saving processing power for more important things.

Well, just like in real life, you make the girl wait and crave for you. The 2nd date didnt come for the longest time. I almost completely forgotten about her because I was busy with doing the missions by Vlad and Roman. Anyways, nothing to get excited about. No sex cut scenes, just scenes of Michelle's condo while you hear her say your name louder and louder, hehehe
