Has anyone had a problem with their 5 antennae bending as it is entered and exited from your garage? I asked the local Mazda salesman and he said that Mazda does not make a shorter antennae. I have a standard sized garage. Will I eventually break it? Seems like an oversight on Mazda's part. Anyone?

The CX7 antenna should fit, as should the Honda S2000 antenna. Last I checked the Mazda5 wasn't some weird fluke, it uses the same antenna mount as all the other mazdas.

Not sure if I understand. Are you saying that the antennae that came with the vehicle will eventually break and I should try and replace it with the one on the CX7 or Honda 2000?

no, it wont break. you're fine. most people choose to replace it tho. It looks nicer. I have a 4 inch stubby antenna I bought on ebay for my P5. looks great & I lost no reception on the radio...

Ebay 2.5" so it doesn't interfere with anything that might go on racks such as kayaks, cargo box or surfboards. (if you have & use the racks) No loss of reception.

You could always cut a slot in the door, and aim really good when entering.

Oh yeah sorry I forgot to answer that part of your question. Yeah, it won't break, if it's like the Protege5 antenna (I think it's the same), it is designed with a flexible joint in it so you shouldn't have a problem.

I actually think I might put my stock antenna back on tonight to relive the memories. I love how it makes the car look like a remote control car :D

Right now I have the Honda S2000 antenna and it's short and also flexible.

It is possible to break the antennas though, I've seen plenty of vdubs with their similar antenna with it permanently bent.. I wouldn't recommend going through a non-touchless car was or anything that'll really squish it down.

Thanks, I have also posted a question to the service department nearby. waiting to hear on thier response. I see someone purchased a short stubby one. ? From where? Is it flush at the bottom like the OEM?

Thanks for letting me know it won't break. Can you supply me with any info on this? What did I have to look for? I really hate the scrapping noise it makes along the garage door. I wish Mazda would have thought of this....

I had the same problem with the mazda5 whip antenna. It hit the garage door ever time I entered and exited the gararge. Well after a month it broke off with the threads in the base. I got a screw extractor and was lucky to get it out of base.

I strongly suggest buying this one.

Thank you!!! That's exactly what I was afraid of. Mazda why did you not think of this? Some of us who are lucky enough to have a garage would like to get them in without having to remove/replace the antennae everyday!

That would be appreciated, although I am not happy that this was not thought of by Mazda!

Wow that sucks. Mine didn't ever hit on my Protege5, but of course the protege5 is a bit less tall and plus mine is lowered.

I bet exiting the garage put a lot more stress on it than entering due to the angle it's mounted at. Mazda should switch them to the antenna they made for the CX-7.. maybe they will since they've already designed the part and all. I think the CX-7 antenna is roughly 12" long, so like half (or less, I can't remember my oem antenna anymore) the length. That would stop it from hitting the garage door, right?

The 5 was the first tall-ish vehicle that they have made since they switched to the center roof mounted antenna whip, and they just used the one that they had been using since the P5 (and on the 3, 6, etc). They must have known it was an issue because the CX-7 got a new shorter antenna.. hopefully it'll trickle down to the other models that need it. I wish they just stuck with the in-glass antenna they used on the Mazdaspeed Protege.

Couldn't hurt to ask. Explain to them that you are afraid that it will break and have heard accounts from other mazda5 drivers that it has broken for them. They may want to wait until it actually does break but who knows.. I'm sure the CX-7 antenna costs the same price if not really close to that of the Mazda5 antenna.

honestly no.. I've never had to deal with them, I just bought the car and was happy ever since haha. I bet there's a customer service number for mazda north america right inside your owner's manual, but I'd call your dealership and see if they'll swap antennas for you first.

or dress up in all black with a ski mask and "visit" an unsuspecting CX-7 on the lot during the middle of the night :P :P

As I previously stated I live in Chicago and have noticed no difference in reception. I have no idea how reception will be in cities with weaker signals. But for 14 bucks shipped it may be worth a shot before layin out the big bucks for the shark fin.

Probably right. Thanks for the info. When I read your post before I was unable to get to Ebay to find the details on the item you suggested. Blocked site at work. Just got to read them all. Was the item rubber or plastic?

Yeah I guess its aluminum. Am is ok here but once again here in Chicago, I get a real strong signal to the am station I listen to. And One more thing< Take off the antenna before going in the garage until you get a new one. If it breaks off in base and you arent lucky, it could be real trouble.

Very good advice, thanks! Luckily, I received an answer from my dealer and they are willing to swap out mine for another from a CX7, I think. I guess they really want a great survey response from me. Fair enough, they have been pretty good so far and I do like driving the car. Should I mention a name? It's in Connecticut.

Does your dealer happen to be Morande? Cause I got my extended warranty from them, spoke at length to Peter Q. , seems like a knowledgable honest guy. Wish I found a Mazda dealership that was worth a crap here in Chicago. Good luck.

No, not them. I received a reply from Mazda USA. The engineers will be looking into if any more complaints come up on this model. They said they are unable to help me with this matter at this time. Anyone else want to contact them and maybe get this fixed for future buyers?

No, it wasn't them. Glad to know that. I tried buying one there but they would not come down on the price of one I there. The manager was too insistent and somewhat arrogant, too, That's OK, I am happier with my manual trans.
